Judge candidates on whether they can show conversion data from stores they built, not on portfolio aesthetics. A Brand Store mainly serves branded search, Sponsored Brands traffic, and off-channel visitors. If those three are small for you, store design is not where your next gain is.

The short version

  • Ask for conversion data, not screenshots. Pretty stores that do not convert are common.
  • A Brand Store serves three traffic sources. Size them before you invest.
  • It requires Brand Registry. Confirm you own the enrollment.
  • In-house production beats subcontracted for iteration speed.
  • Fix the product page first. That is where most buyers actually decide.

What a Brand Store is actually for

I run Flapen with 50 operators managing about 70 brands, with creative production in an in-house Dubai studio. The most common mistake here is investing in a store before understanding who visits it.

Traffic source How they arrive Store's job
Branded search Searching your brand name Range discovery, credibility
Sponsored Brands ads Headline ad clicks to store Landing experience, multi-product
Off-channel traffic Blog, social, influencer links First impression, brand story
Organic product search Almost never reaches the store Not applicable

That last row is the important one. Most Amazon buyers arrive at a product detail page and decide there. They never see the store.

So the question to answer before commissioning one is how much of your traffic comes from the first three rows. If you run no Sponsored Brands, have little branded search, and no off-channel program, a store is a small lever. If you are running the influencer and creator program and off-channel traffic, it becomes a genuine landing destination and is worth real investment.

How to evaluate a store design agency

  1. Ask for before-and-after conversion data on stores they built, not portfolio images.
  2. Ask how they decided the page structure. It should reference the traffic sources above.
  3. Ask who produces the photography and video, in-house or subcontracted.
  4. Ask about iteration. A store is not a one-time deliverable.
  5. Confirm they work inside your Brand Registry, not their own.

Point one filters quickly. Store design is a visual discipline and most agencies present it visually, because conversion data on stores is harder to isolate than on product pages. An agency that has measured it at all is unusual, and worth talking to.

Point three matters more than it looks. A store built from stock imagery and existing product shots is a layout exercise. A store with purpose-shot lifestyle photography and video is a different product, and if that production is subcontracted, iteration is slow and expensive.

Where store design sits against other work

Honest ordering, if your budget is finite:

First, the primary image. It sets click-through rate, which caps all traffic to your product page. Cheapest high-leverage change available.

Second, product page conversion. Secondary images, bullets, and A+ content. This is where most buyers decide, and if your conversion rate is low no amount of ad spend fixes it.

Third, the Brand Store. Once branded search, Sponsored Brands, and off-channel traffic are meaningful enough to justify a destination.

Agencies rarely present it in this order because store design is a discrete, sellable project with a satisfying visual deliverable, while primary image testing is unglamorous and iterative.

What a good store actually does

Structure it around the three traffic sources. A clear range overview for branded search, dedicated landing sections for any Sponsored Brands campaign pointing at it, and a brand story section for off-channel visitors who have never heard of you.

Then measure it. Amazon provides store insights including visitors, views, and sales attributed. Review them quarterly and change the store based on what they say. A store that has not been touched since launch is a brochure.

What most agencies will not tell you

Store design is one of the most profitable services to sell in this category. It is scoped, visual, easy to price, and easy for a client to feel good about. It is also frequently not the thing holding a brand back.

Ask a candidate directly whether a store is your highest-leverage next investment. An agency willing to say your primary image and product page matter more, and that a store can wait, is telling you something useful about how they will advise you later.

The other quiet point: a store cannot be evaluated in isolation. Its performance depends entirely on whether you drive traffic to it. Commissioning a store without a Sponsored Brands program or an off-channel plan is building a shop on a street with no footfall.

If a store is not your next best investment, we will say so. Creative is in-house at Flapen.
