The best EU listing audit checks every marketplace separately across seven areas: listing quality, primary image click-through, conversion rate, ad performance, traffic channel activation, pricing, and return rate. Insist on per-market numbers, because a listing that converts on amazon.de can fail on amazon.fr, and ask for the report in writing within days, not weeks.
The short version
- Seven areas, scored per marketplace. An audit that averages Germany with Italy has hidden the finding you paid for.
- Speed is a quality signal. A competent team reads an account fast. We deliver a written audit in 48 hours without charging for it.
- The audit must name causes, not symptoms. Low sales in France is a symptom. Ported English keywords are a cause.
- Channel activation is the most commonly skipped area. Most audits check the ads you run and ignore the traffic sources you do not.
- A good audit ends in a ranked fix list. Findings without priorities are trivia.
The diagnostic table
An EU audit is detective work: each marketplace shows a symptom, and the audit's job is to trace it to a cause and an owner. These are the patterns that appear most often when a multi-market account crosses my desk.
| Symptom | Likely cause | What the fix involves |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic fine in DE, conversion two points under the UK | Translated copy, not native copy | Native German keyword research and rewrite |
| Strong UK, near-zero DE and FR sales | English keyword set ported across | Per-market keyword research from scratch |
| Healthy revenue, shrinking FR margin | Pricing never adjusted per market | Market-by-market pricing review |
| Everything flat everywhere | Only one or two traffic channels active | Channel activation audit, see below |
| Returns concentrated in one country | Expectation mismatch in images or copy | Localized imagery and specification copy |
| Ads efficient in one market, bleeding in another | One campaign structure cloned across markets | Rebuilt per-market campaign architecture |
The channel activation check
This is the area that separates a real audit from a listing critique. There are five ways a product gets traffic: organic rank, paid ads, promotions, influencer and creator content, and off-channel sources. Most sellers actively run two. An EU audit should show which of the five are switched on in each marketplace, because the answer is usually different in Germany than in the UK, and the cheapest growth available is often a channel that is switched off. When an auditor never mentions channels, they are auditing your copy, not your business.
Why per-market scoring is non-negotiable
Averages manufacture health. Blend a strong amazon.co.uk with a weak amazon.fr and the account looks acceptable, which is precisely how weak marketplaces stay weak for years. Demand one scorecard per marketplace, each with its own conversion baseline, because a good German conversion rate and a good Italian one are different numbers. Comparing your own markets against each other, and against category demand, is research work, and the framework we use for it is public at our research method.
What the deliverable should look like
- A scorecard per marketplace across the seven areas, with the underlying numbers shown.
- Causes named for each red flag, in plain language a non-specialist can act on.
- A ranked fix list ordered by expected impact, not by how easy the fixes are to sell.
- A clear statement of what the auditor could not see from outside the account.
- All of it in writing, within days. Our own turnaround is 48 hours, free, and I publish that number because it is a fair bar to hold anyone to.
What most agencies will not tell you
Audits are a sales instrument, and the incentive shapes the findings. An agency that sells PPC management finds ad problems. A creative studio finds image problems. Not through dishonesty, but because every practice reads an account through what it sells. Two defenses: ask for the audit in writing before any call where it is presented, so the findings exist independent of the pitch, and check whether the report ever recommends something that generates no revenue for its author, like fixing your pricing or pausing a doomed marketplace. A report whose every finding happens to match the auditor's rate card was a brochure.
