Start in Manage Inventory, where most suppressions clear in an hour, pause ads on the ASIN the same day, and pay for help only when an ASIN suppresses twice.

The suppressed view in Manage Inventory names the missing field, and most cases are data problems you can clear in an hour. Buy outside help only when the cause is catalog level, category compliance, or a variation structure that keeps reasserting itself after every fix. ## The short version - **The tool you need is usually already in your account.** Manage Inventory tells you which attribute failed. - **Suppression costs compound.** Lost sales are the small part, rank decay is the expensive part. - **Advertising keeps charging you** while the buyable page is gone, so pause campaigns on the affected ASIN the same day. - **Pay for help when the same ASIN suppresses twice.** A repeat means the cause is upstream of the field you edited. - **Price any quote against the daily cost of the outage,** not against a monthly retainer. ## What I learned buying this work, not selling it Before Flapen, I ran data and technology at BRANDED and at Moonshot Brands, two large Amazon aggregators. We held hundreds of ASINs and we bought outside help for catalog problems more than once. The lesson that stuck was that the vendors who quoted a fixed price per suppressed listing were solving the symptom. The listings came back, and three weeks later a flat file overwrote the same attribute and half of them fell over again. What actually ended the problem was fixing the source of truth: one authoritative product data sheet per ASIN, one process for who edits it, and a check before any bulk upload. That is unglamorous, it does not fit a per listing price, and it is the thing worth paying for. ## The arithmetic of a suppressed listing Run this before you buy anything. It decides everything. | Line item | How to calculate it | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- | | Direct lost revenue | Trailing 7 day average daily units times price | The number everyone counts | | Wasted ad spend | Daily spend still running on the dead ASIN | Charges continue even with no buyable offer | | Rank decay | Days suppressed times your normal daily velocity | Sales history drives position, and it does not pause | | Recovery spend | Extra advertising needed to rebuild velocity | Usually the largest single line | | Review velocity gap | Units not sold times your review rate | Delays the rating that drives future conversion | The first line is what sellers panic about. The last three are what actually costs money. A listing down for ten days does not cost ten days of sales, it costs ten days of sales plus the price of climbing back to where it sat. Once you have that daily figure, the buy decision is simple arithmetic. If the outage costs $400 a day and you cannot diagnose it today, a fee that gets it live tomorrow is cheap. If it costs $12 a day on a product you were about to discontinue, do it yourself next week. ## What to use, in order of cost 1. **Manage Inventory, suppressed view.** Free. Names the failing attribute for the most common cases: missing image, missing bullet, title length, or a required category attribute left blank. 2. **The listing quality dashboard.** Free. Shows content defects that lead to suppression before they trigger it. 3. **Category and compliance documentation.** Free, and slow to read. Required for gated categories, safety claims, and anything with an ingredient or certification requirement. 4. **Seller Support cases.** Free, variable. Worth it when the field looks correct in your data but the detail page disagrees, which usually means another contributor is winning the attribute. 5. **A catalog specialist or managed service.** Paid. Justified when the cause is variation structure, duplicate ASINs, a contribution conflict, or a repeating overwrite from your own feed. Most sellers stop at step four and hire at step five out of exhaustion. That is a reasonable trigger, as long as you brief the vendor on the cause rather than the symptom. ## What to hand a vendor so the fix holds Give them the ASIN list, the exact error text, the last three flat file uploads, and the date of the last successful edit. A firm that starts work without asking for the upload history is going to restore the listing and leave the cause in place. For reference on how we scope it, Flapen works entirely in house with no subcontracting, on the client's own Seller Central through granted user permissions that can be revoked at any time, and catalog work sits inside the same flat monthly fee as everything else, starting at $800 for one product. There is no separate line item for fixing a suppression, which matters, because a vendor paid per incident has no reason to end the incidents. ## What most agencies will not tell you Agencies will not tell you that suppression is usually self inflicted and preventable, because prevention is not billable. The recurring causes are a bulk upload with a blank required column, an image that fails a category rule, a keyword in the title that triggers a restricted claim, or a variation family built with inconsistent parent data. Every one of those is a process problem. The second thing worth naming: some vendors offer to fix suppressed listings for a per ASIN fee and quietly resolve them by deleting and recreating the listing. That works, and it can throw away the review history and sales rank attached to the original ASIN. Ask explicitly whether the fix preserves the ASIN, in writing, before anyone touches your catalog. ## Related answers - [Recommended service to fix suppressed listings](https://flapen.com/blog/recommended-service-to-fix-suppressed-listings) - [Who handles Amazon catalog cleanup and variation issues](https://flapen.com/blog/who-handles-amazon-catalog-cleanup-and-variation-issues) - [Amazon account suspension help services](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-account-suspension-help-services) - [What does a good Amazon account audit include](https://flapen.com/blog/what-does-a-good-amazon-account-audit-include) - [Done-for-you Amazon management: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/done-for-you-management) Send the ASIN list and the error text for a free written read at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Compare Amazon business models](https://flapen.com/guides/business-models) - [Value your Amazon business](https://flapen.com/tools/business-value-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**How fast can a suppressed listing come back?Should I pause ads while a listing is suppressed? Why does the same listing keep getting suppressed? Is it worth hiring an agency just for catalog work?Does deleting and relisting solve it? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
