Lead with profit, keep one metric per question the board will ask, and cut everything decorative. ## The short version - **Six slides, in a fixed order.** Executives trust decks whose structure never changes, because change becomes visible instantly. - **Profit opens, always.** Revenue-first decks train the room to applaud the wrong number. - **One metric answers one question.** If a slide cannot name the question it answers, delete it. - **Supply chain gets a slide.** Most Amazon decks hide the physical business, and the physical business is where margins die. - **End with decisions and asks.** A KPI deck exists to allocate attention and capital, not to describe weather. ## Your situation You run or report on an Amazon channel, and someone senior wants to understand it in fifteen minutes a month. The temptation is to export everything, forty charts, and let the room find its own story. The result is a meeting about definitions. What an executive audience needs is the causal chain of the business compressed into one question per slide, in an order that never varies, so month-over-month comparison happens by memory. ## Build the deck in this sequence Each slide has a gate. If the slide cannot pass its gate, fix the underlying data before presenting, because a deck that guesses is worse than no deck. 1. **Profit and cash.** Contribution profit by product line, next to revenue, with fees, ad spend, and freight netted. The gate: a finance person could reconcile this slide against the bank account. 2. **Traffic by channel.** Sessions and spend split by source, with the trend. The gate: the slide shows whether growth is being bought or earned. 3. **Conversion and rating health.** Conversion rate, return rate, and rating trend for the top products. The gate: any deterioration visible here has an owner and a dated plan, typically inside your [Amazon listing optimization](https://flapen.com/amazon-listing-optimization) workstream. 4. **Supply chain.** Inventory cover, inbound status, landed cost movement, and defect or claim signals. The gate: the room can see a stockout or margin squeeze coming at least one cycle early. This is the slide most agencies cannot fill because they never touch the physical product. Our sourcing and QC run through Flapen's own Guangzhou studio, with frameworks built across more than 500 brands, and that side of the business changes P&L as surely as advertising does. 5. **Decisions taken.** What was scaled, fixed, paused, or killed since the last deck, with the criteria that triggered each call. The gate: at least one entry is a stop, not a start, over any rolling quarter. 6. **Asks.** Capital, approvals, or decisions needed from the room, each tied to a number on a previous slide. The gate: every ask names its expected return. ## A one-page reference | Slide | The question it answers | Kill it if |
| --- | --- | --- | | Profit and cash | Are we making money and can we breathe | It shows revenue without margin | | Traffic by channel | Where demand comes from and at what cost | Channels are blended into one line | | Conversion and rating | Is the product still winning buyers | It hides products that are slipping | | Supply chain | Will we be able to sell next quarter | It only appears after a stockout | | Decisions taken | Is anyone actually steering | Every entry is a launch, never a stop | | Asks | What the room must decide today | It is missing, which makes the deck a diary | ## What a polished deck will not tell you Polish hides selection. Every deck is a curation of a much larger data surface, and the professional gloss of a well-designed slide makes the curation invisible. The defense is structural, not aesthetic: fix the six questions in advance, in writing, so the deck author cannot quietly swap a hard question for an easy one in a bad month. When slide three changes its definition of conversion, or slide one switches from contribution profit to gross, that is not a design choice. It is the deck negotiating with reality. The second thing gloss conceals is absence. The most important Amazon numbers some months are the ones with no chart: the competitor who cut price, the review trend that turned, the shipment stuck at origin. Require a standing line on each slide for what changed outside the account, even when the answer is nothing. ## Related answers - [Best practices for global ASIN-level KPI rollups](https://flapen.com/blog/best-practices-for-global-asin-level-kpi-rollups) - [Monthly vs weekly cadence for Amazon reporting](https://flapen.com/blog/monthly-vs-weekly-cadence-for-amazon-reporting) - [EU vs US Amazon KPI differences](https://flapen.com/blog/eu-vs-us-amazon-kpi-differences) - [North star metrics for Amazon brand launches](https://flapen.com/blog/north-star-metrics-for-amazon-brand-launches) - [Amazon creative services: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/creative-services) See how we report to the brands we manage at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Optimize the listing](https://flapen.com/guides/listing-optimization) - [Run the review math](https://flapen.com/tools/review-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**How often should the executive deck be produced? How many KPIs should the whole deck contain?Should the deck show marketplace-by-marketplace detail?Who should own the deck, the brand team or the agency? What is the fastest sign a KPI deck has gone stale? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
