Read the answer out of your own order data and competitor reviews rather than guessing, then price it above the hero and below the parts bought separately. ## The short version - **A bundle is a margin lever, not a pricing trick.** The same advertising click now pays for more revenue. - **The evidence already exists.** Buyers tell you what belongs together in reviews and in what they order in the same week. - **Bundles fail when they are convenient for you.** Combining slow movers with a winner moves the problem, it does not solve it. - **Packaging is part of the product.** A bundle that arrives as loose items in a box reads as cheap and gets returned. - **Price against the alternative.** Your competition is the buyer purchasing the pieces separately, not your own single unit listing. ## Why order value is the cheapest lever you have Acquisition cost is charged per customer, not per dollar. When someone clicks your advertisement and buys, you have already paid the full cost of getting them there whether they spend twenty dollars or forty. Everything above the first purchase price arrives at a much better margin, because the expensive part of the transaction is already paid for. That is the whole argument for bundling, and it is why it usually outperforms an equivalent effort spent on lowering advertising cost. Shaving your cost per click takes constant work and has a floor. Raising what a converted buyer spends is a one time piece of product and listing work that keeps paying. There is a second effect worth knowing. A higher order value widens the range of advertising you can afford to run, which often opens keywords that were previously out of reach at your old price point. ## Diagnostic: read the symptom, then choose the bundle | What you observe | What it is telling you | The bundle that answers it |
| --- | --- | --- | | Buyers ask in reviews where to get refills or replacements | The consumable is being bought from someone else | Hero plus a supply of the consumable, and a subscription style multipack | | Returns cite the wrong size rather than a fault | Buyers cannot pick correctly before purchase | A two size set, which converts a return into a kept order | | Reviews describe a workaround using another item | The product is incomplete without an accessory | Hero plus the accessory, packaged as one solution | | The same two of your items are bought within a week of each other | The sequence is already happening, unassisted | A starter set that removes the second decision | | Competitors sell single units only, at a low price | The category is competing on unit price | A set that moves the comparison away from unit price entirely | | Your listing converts well but order value sits at the category floor | Nothing wrong with demand, the offer is just small | Multipack of the same item, the simplest bundle to test | Work down this table with your own data open. The first three rows come out of reviews, yours and your competitors'. The next two come from your own order history. The last is a pricing observation you can make from the search results page in a minute. ## Bundles that fail, and why The most common failure is the clearance bundle. A seller has stock that will not move, attaches it to the product that does, and calls it a set. Buyers read this instantly, and the review that says the extra item was useless damages the hero product's rating rather than the dead stock's. The second failure is the incoherent set. Items that share a category but not a moment of use do not feel like a bundle. The test is whether a buyer would use both things in the same session, for the same job. If not, you have a shipping efficiency, not an offer. The third is unit economics. A bundle changes dimensional weight, and dimensional weight drives the fulfillment fee. I have seen sets that raised revenue and lowered profit because the box crossed a size tier. Model the fee on the bundled dimensions before you build it, not after. ## Who actually builds a bundle A bundle is four pieces of work: choosing the combination, sourcing and packaging it, photographing it so the value is obvious at thumbnail size, and rebuilding the listing and advertising around a new price point. The photography and the packaging are where most bundles are won or lost, because a set has to look like one product in a single image. This is a reasonable moment to ask any partner who does that work and where those people sit. Our creative is produced in our own studio in Dubai, sourcing runs through our own studio in Guangzhou, and nothing is subcontracted, so the person who picks the combination is in the same organization as the person who shoots it. When bundle photography is farmed out to a marketplace freelancer, you get a competent picture of two objects instead of an image that sells a solution. Ask who does the work and where they sit, of us as much as of anyone else. ## What most agencies will not tell you Bundling is unglamorous and it is not billable in an obvious way. There is no dashboard that shows a bundle working, no daily optimization to report, and the whole intervention is a few weeks of product and creative work that then quietly raises margin for a year. Compared with running campaigns, it looks like nothing is happening, so it gets proposed far less often than it should. The second thing: a bundle can hide a weak product for a while. Higher order value flatters your acquisition cost and can make a mediocre hero look viable. Before you build a set, check that the hero item earns on its own. Bundling a product with a falling rating just means more units of a problem arriving at more houses. ## Related answers - [Optimize Amazon listings for Q4](https://flapen.com/blog/optimize-amazon-listings-for-q4) - [How to use reviews to discover product gaps](https://flapen.com/blog/how-to-use-reviews-to-discover-product-gaps) - [Which product analytics to track weekly](https://flapen.com/blog/which-product-analytics-to-track-weekly) - [How to pick a hero SKU for a 90-day sprint](https://flapen.com/blog/how-to-pick-a-hero-sku-for-a-90-day-sprint) - [Amazon seller roadmaps and capital: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/roadmaps-and-capital) If you want your catalog read for bundle opportunities, that is part of the free written audit at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Set up your Amazon seller account](https://flapen.com/guides/account-setup) - [Estimate your launch cost](https://flapen.com/tools/launch-cost-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**How much should a bundle raise order value to be worth doing?Should I list the bundle separately or replace the single unit?Do multipacks count as bundles? How do I price a bundle? Can bundling hurt my ranking? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
