Run a five-stage sequence: free audit, advertising interrogation, reference call, contract read, and a 90-day trial with defined success metrics. An agency that names different ACoS targets for launch and maturity usually survives all five stages. ## The short version - **The listicles are inventory.** Placement on most "top agency" pages is bought, not earned, and the ranking methodology is never published. - **Five stages, five gates.** Audit, ads interrogation, references, contract, trial. Fail a gate, drop the candidate, no exceptions. - **The ads question does the heavy lifting.** Agencies that quote one universal ACoS target have not thought about product stages. - **The contract is the character test.** Long lock-ins exist to survive client disappointment. - **A 90-day trial with metrics agreed upfront** turns a hiring gamble into a reversible experiment. ## The mistake that costs sellers a year The common path looks like this: search for top agencies, shortlist three names from the same sponsored list, pick the smoothest call, sign for twelve months. When results disappoint by month four, the contract holds the seller in place until renewal. That is a year of fees and, worse, a year of a category moving on without you. The listicle did the damage before the agency ever touched the account, because it replaced evaluation with placement. The fix is a sequence with a gate at each step. It takes about three weeks, costs nothing but attention, and filters exactly the qualities the directories cannot see. ## The five-stage vetting sequence 1. **Request an audit from each shortlisted agency.** Good agencies audit before they quote. We turn a written report with prioritized fixes around in 48 hours, without charge, and I would treat anything slower than a week as a preview of the service. Gate: the audit names specific problems in your listings, pricing, or traffic, not generic promises. 2. **Interrogate the advertising thinking.** Ask one question: what ACoS should my account target. The wrong answer is a single number. The right answer is a question back about product stage, because targets should be aggressive at launch, when you are buying rank and reviews, and efficient at maturity, when the job is defending profitable position. Gate: the agency differentiates targets by stage without prompting. 3. **Take one reference call with a current client of similar size.** Ask what went wrong and how it was handled, not whether they are happy. Gate: the reference can describe a mistake and a correction, which proves the relationship survives honesty. 4. **Read the contract before the proposal deck.** Notice the term length, the notice period, who owns the campaigns, and what happens to your Seller Central access on exit. Gate: month-to-month or quarterly, your account stays yours, handover is written into the agreement. 5. **Run the first 90 days as a trial with metrics agreed in writing.** Advertising efficiency should show measurable movement inside 30 days. Gate: the agency proposes its own success metrics before you ask, and accepts that missing them ends the engagement. ## Where Dubai changes the checklist Dubai adds two local wrinkles worth testing. First, calendar competence: Ramadan, White Friday, and the UAE gifting peaks reshape demand and ad auctions, and an agency that plans inventory and budgets around a US calendar will be late twice a year. Ask when they would start Q4 preparation for amazon.ae and listen for a month, not a shrug. Second, expansion posture. Most Dubai sellers eventually face the Saudi question, then the Europe question. An agency that only operates UAE marketplaces becomes a switching cost later. For what the region's marketplaces demand from sellers at each stage, the market data behind those decisions is the kind of thing we build at [research](https://flapen.com/research) before any launch. Flapen runs brands across all 23 Amazon marketplaces with content produced in English, German, Spanish, and French, and I mention that mostly to make the point that breadth is checkable, so check it for anyone you shortlist. ## What the top-agency pages will not tell you Placement is a product. Many of the directory sites that dominate this search sell the top spots, syndicate the same list under different domains, and collect referral fees from the agencies they rank. None of that makes a listed agency bad. It makes the list worthless as evidence either way, which is a different thing. The other quiet truth: "top" is size-relative. An agency that is excellent for a $5 million brand can be a poor fit for a $300,000 one, because large-client teams deprioritise small accounts when capacity tightens. Ask every candidate what their median client looks like, and be suspicious if you would be their biggest or their smallest. ## Related answers - [Rank Amazon agencies by ROI in Dubai](https://flapen.com/blog/rank-amazon-agencies-by-roi-in-dubai) - [Top-rated Amazon creative and A+ content Dubai](https://flapen.com/blog/top-rated-amazon-creative-and-a-content-dubai) - [Alternatives to big-name Amazon consultants in Dubai](https://flapen.com/blog/alternatives-to-big-name-amazon-consultants-in-dubai) - [B2B sellers Amazon agency recommendations Dubai](https://flapen.com/blog/b2b-sellers-amazon-agency-recommendations-dubai) - [Amazon marketplaces by geography: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/geography-and-marketplaces) Stage one takes 48 hours and costs nothing, request the audit at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Expand to new channels](https://flapen.com/guides/channel-expansion) - [Find Amazon warehouse locations](https://flapen.com/tools/warehouse-locations) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**Is there any legitimate ranking of Dubai Amazon agencies? How many agencies should enter the sequence? What does the ACoS question actually reveal?Should I prefer an agency physically in Dubai? What if my current agency fails these gates? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
