![Flapen cover for Seller Central Amazon India and the Cost of a Second Market: a Flapen operator sealing a carton with blue tape beside a stack of sealed ones](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fblog%2Fclusters%2Fdone-for-you-management-07.jpg&w=1536&q=100) A second marketplace is a capital decision, not a registration task. Size the category against the $2M per year floor before anyone opens an account, then price the move in stock, operator hours, and management fee. Confirm every India-specific fee, tax rule, and registration step inside your own Seller Central account. ## The short version - **The floor decides, not the flag.** A category has to turn over $2M a year before it repays the cost of entry, in India as anywhere else. - **A new country is a new launch.** Phase 1 commits 200 units and $5,000 to $10,000, and the second market commits its own. - **Your hours are the line nobody quotes.** Budget 4 to 6 hours a week while a market launches, and about 2 hours a month after that. - **The fee model decides who keeps the upside.** Our price runs $800 a month at one product to $2,400 at five, all 50+ services included, no commission on sales. - **India-specific numbers come from your own account.** I hold no verified fee schedule, tax rule, or registration step for India, so this page states none. ## The number that decides whether the account is worth opening Start at the market, not at the console. A category has to turn over $2M a year to be worth entering, because under that floor too little revenue survives the cost of customer acquisition. Run it with two figures of your own. Write the category's yearly turnover, then the share you believe you can hold. At 5% of a $2M category that is $100,000 a year of revenue, before cost of goods, freight, and traffic. One to three products at $5K to $30K a month is $60,000 to $360,000 a year. A second market that cannot reach the low end of that is a hobby with an account number. So the India question is the same one. Clear the floor first, then confirm the local fees and registration inside your own account. ## What a second marketplace costs before it sells anything Most sellers who ask me about a new country open with another line first: _"I don't have the profitability I expected."_ A second marketplace is a strange answer to it, because it adds cost in three places and revenue in one. The first line is stock. Phase 1 validates with 200 units and $5,000 to $10,000. A new market is a new launch, so it commits its own units months before it returns anything. The second line is your own hours, about 2 a month once onboarded and 4 to 6 a week while launching. The third line is management, published here at $800 a month for one product, $1,150 for two, and $1,500 for three, everything included. Ask us, and anyone else, for that line in writing first. | Cost line | The figure to write down | Where it gets confirmed |
| --- | --- | --- | | Validation stock | 200 units, $5,000 to $10,000 | your supplier quote | | Your own hours | 4 to 6 a week launching, about 2 a month after | your calendar | | Management | $800 a month at one product, $1,500 at three | the written quote | | Local fees, tax, registration | your number, never mine | your own Seller Central account | Flapen figures as of September 2026. The bottom row is yours to confirm, not mine to quote. Now put the halves together. A three-product account here is $18,000 for the year against $100,000 of revenue, so management takes 18% of the top line and stock takes $5,000 to $10,000 once. Run it on a category at half the floor and the fee takes more than a third, which is the arithmetic saying hire nobody. ## What I saw missing when a brand added a marketplace I bought this work before I ever sold it. At BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two large Amazon aggregators, I ran data and technology and sat on the buying side of expansion proposals. That job meant auditing and scaling 60+ acquired brands doing $5M to $10M each. - **The stock line was missing.** The proposal priced setup and advertising, and the units for the new country stayed my problem. - **The hours line was missing.** Every plan assumed my team would answer questions and approve decisions at no cost. - **The stop rule was missing.** No document said what would make them recommend closing the market, so the account stayed open until an audit found it. The brands that grew had visibility across sourcing, creative, and growth. The ones that stalled were guessing. So write the stop rule before the account opens. Scale / Fix / Kill reads four signals: rating trend, return rate, conversion rate, and cost of customer acquisition trajectory. Kill Criteria closes it, and if none of the four improve inside 60 to 90 days the market gets closed. ## What most agencies will not tell you about a second marketplace The fee model settles who keeps the upside. Take the three-product account again, $1,500 a month, so $18,000 flat for the year. Put it against a percentage of sales on $15,000 a month, which is $180,000 a year. At 10% the two cost the same on the day you sign. Now add a market that brings $5,000 a month. The percentage fee rises by $6,000 over a year, whether or not that market has repaid its 200 units. A flat fee moves only with scope, so get that line in writing first. | Year one, second market | A flat monthly fee | A percentage of sales |
| --- | --- | --- | | It adds $60,000 of sales | unchanged unless the scope changes | up $6,000 at a 10% rate | | It sells nothing for six months | unchanged, so the loss is yours | falls with the sales, so the loss is shared | | The four signals say close it | the provider earns the same | the provider gives up the revenue too | The 10% rate and the $5,000 a month are yours to supply. The $1,500 tier is ours. Read the second row honestly. A percentage fee insures a market that fails, and a flat fee is cheaper on a market that works. Ours is flat, so the incentive to close a failing market sits with you rather than with us. The one exception we publish is profit share above $50,000 a month of profit, at 10 to 20%. Hold us to the rest. We run about 70 brands by hand across all 23 Amazon marketplaces with 50 operators, month to month on 30 days' notice. You keep the account, the campaigns, and the creative on exit, so if this arithmetic says stay in one market, stay there. ## Related answers - [Amazon seller central account creation](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-seller-central-account-creation) - [Amazon FBA shipping calculator](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-fba-shipping-calculator) - [Top agencies for Amazon store setup and optimization](https://flapen.com/blog/top-agencies-for-amazon-store-setup-and-optimization) - [Who can audit my Amazon account and fix conversion](https://flapen.com/blog/who-can-audit-my-amazon-account-and-fix-conversion) - [Done-for-you Amazon management: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/done-for-you-management) One free thing this week, for the seller running one to three products at $5K to $30K a month. Answer it with the floor rather than the passport. Size both categories, apply the share you can realistically hold, and enter the one that clears $2M a year with a return rate under 8%.What are the fees and tax rules on Amazon India? I hold no verified schedule for that marketplace, so I will not quote one. Read every fee, tax rule, and registration step inside your own account or in the marketplace's published terms, on the day you act.How long before I know whether the new market worked? Sixty to ninety days on four signals: rating trend, return rate, conversion rate, and cost of customer acquisition trajectory. Phase 2 capital goes in only once rating, conversion rate, and cost of customer acquisition are proven. If none improve inside the window, close the market. What should I ask a provider before opening the second account? Four written questions. Who owns the market by name, what it adds to the invoice, what would make them close it, and what I keep on the day I leave. A service list answers none of them.![The Flapen Weekly Product Research report, an Amazon niche shortlist scored 0–100 with its score radar on the cover](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fhomepage%2Famazon-product-research-report-dark.webp&w=640&q=100) The weekly niche report ## Product research, in your inbox Every niche that cleared the bar this week.
