No service buys it for you. Hire for the operational work behind those four inputs, and set a rule for when a product losing the Buy Box should be repriced, fixed, or dropped. ## The short version - **Nobody sells Buy Box share.** They sell the operations that produce it, and the two are easy to confuse on a sales call. - **Order matters.** Account health first, then price and fulfillment, then stock discipline. Fixing them out of order wastes money. - **Unauthorised sellers are a brand registry and enforcement job,** not a pricing job. - **Stock outs cost twice.** You lose the Buy Box and the rank that was feeding it. - **Write a stopping rule.** Some products should lose the Buy Box and be discontinued rather than defended. ## Work the four inputs in this order Run these as a sequence. Each step has a condition that has to be true before the next one is worth paying for. 1. **Account and listing health.** Policy warnings, suppressed listings, missing attributes, and inauthentic claims all sit upstream of everything else. Move on when your account has no open performance issues and no suppressed ASINs on the products that matter. 2. **Who else is on your listing.** For a private label brand, the usual cause of lost Buy Box is somebody who should not be there. This is enforcement work through brand registry rather than a price adjustment. Move on when every seller on your ASIN is one you authorized. 3. **Price band and rules.** Decide the floor, the ceiling, and what triggers a move, then apply it consistently. Competing without a floor is how a category turns into a race that nobody wins. Move on when the rules are written down and somebody owns them. 4. **Fulfillment and delivery promise.** The speed a shopper sees affects the outcome. If a product cannot support the promise your competitors are making, that is a supply chain decision, not a listing one. Move on when the fulfillment method is deliberate rather than inherited. 5. **Stock discipline.** Restock signals need to be acted on early. A stock out surrenders position, and recovering rank afterwards costs more than the inventory would have. Move on when restock alerts have a named owner and a lead time buffer. 6. **Measurement.** Track Buy Box share per ASIN over time, not as a single account number. One product losing it for a specific reason is a fixable problem. An account average hides exactly that. ## What to buy, and what not to | Need | The right service | What it should not be |
| --- | --- | --- | | Unauthorised sellers on your ASINs | Brand registry enforcement, reported the day it appears | A monthly monitoring fee with no action taken | | Pricing consistency | An operator with a written rule set, tooling optional | Automated repricing with no floor and nobody watching | | Suppressed or unhealthy listings | Catalog work with support case handling | An audit that lists problems and stops there | | Stock and restock timing | Inventory signals inside your weekly management | A separate vendor who does not see your advertising | | Ongoing ownership | A brand manager who reads all four inputs together | Four specialists reporting separately to you | The recurring mistake here is buying tools instead of owners. A repricer with no floor and no supervision will happily sell your margin. The tool is fine. The absence of a person deciding the rules is not. ## When to stop defending a product Not every Buy Box is worth winning. Some products are losing it because a competitor has a better cost structure, and the price you would need to hold it destroys the margin that made the product worth selling. I learned this the expensive way. Years ago I kept funding a product that was not working for three months, convinced the next round of advertising changes would turn it around. It did not, and the money was gone. That is where our scale, fix, or kill criteria came from, and they apply here exactly as they do to a launch: rating trend, return rate, conversion rate, and acquisition cost, judged over a defined window that is set before emotions get involved. Ask any candidate provider what would make them tell you to stop defending a listing. If the answer is that they would keep optimizing, you have found somebody whose incentives do not include your margin. ## What most agencies will not tell you Buy Box share is frequently sold as a service outcome when much of it is arithmetic that was decided when you set your cost structure. If your landed cost, fees, and required margin put your floor above where the category clears, no operator changes that. A supplier conversation does, which is unglamorous work that most agencies are not equipped to have. The second thing: an account level Buy Box percentage is a comfortable metric because it hides the products that are actually bleeding. Insist on per ASIN reporting. Our weekly written updates go out at product level, and the same standard is reasonable to demand anywhere. ## Related answers - [White glove Amazon catalog management for brands](https://flapen.com/blog/white-glove-amazon-catalog-management-for-brands) - [Who handles Amazon catalog cleanup and variation issues](https://flapen.com/blog/who-handles-amazon-catalog-cleanup-and-variation-issues) - [Full service Amazon solution for FBA and FBM brands](https://flapen.com/blog/full-service-amazon-solution-for-fba-and-fbm-brands) - [KPIs an Amazon agency should report weekly](https://flapen.com/blog/kpis-an-amazon-agency-should-report-weekly) - [Done-for-you Amazon management: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/done-for-you-management) For a written read on why a specific ASIN is losing its Buy Box, ask [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Compare Amazon business models](https://flapen.com/guides/business-models) - [Value your Amazon business](https://flapen.com/tools/business-value-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**Why am I losing the Buy Box on my own brand? Will a repricing tool solve it?Does brand registry stop hijackers?Should I match every competitor price? How is this reported? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
