Buy them in that order. The arithmetic is simple. Conversion rate multiplies every dollar of traffic you already pay for, so creative pays back before rank moves. ## The short version - **Conversion is a multiplier on spend you have already committed.** That is why creative comes before more advertising. - **The main image is the highest leverage asset on the account.** More people see it than will ever see your storefront page. - **Sequence the spend.** Detail page first, A+ second, storefront page last. - **Brief from competitor complaints,** because the fastest conversion gains come from answering objections buyers already wrote down. - **Measure sessions and unit session percentage before and after,** or you have bought decoration. ## The mechanism, in arithmetic Traffic costs money and conversion is free. That sentence is the whole case for revamping before scaling. Take a product doing 2,000 sessions a month at a 9 percent conversion rate and a $32 average order value. That is 180 orders and $5,760. Move conversion to 11 percent with better images and clearer copy, and the same 2,000 sessions produce 220 orders and $7,040. Nothing about your advertising changed. You did not buy a single extra click. Use your own numbers rather than mine, because the point is the shape, not the example. Run the same logic in reverse and you get the rule that governs every advertising decision you will make this year: if the page converts badly, adding spend buys more people the chance to leave. No bid strategy repairs a conversion problem, which is why the revamp comes first and the budget increase comes second. ## Where the money should go, in order | Line item | What it moves | How to price it |
| --- | --- | --- | | Main image rework | Click-through rate on every impression you already win | Cheapest item, highest leverage. Fix first | | Secondary image set and infographics | Conversion rate on the detail page | Per set, and get three quotes | | Video, including a short demonstration | Conversion and returns, by setting expectations | Per asset. One good one beats four weak ones | | Copy rebuilt on real search terms | Relevance, then rank, then conversion | Per listing. Insist on a keyword source | | A+ content modules | Conversion on the detail page and cross-sell | Per ASIN or per template family | | Storefront pages | Repeat buyers, brand traffic, off-Amazon landing | Last, and honestly optional early | | Translation and local adaptation | Conversion in every non-English marketplace | Per locale, never machine translated | That last row is where a lot of budgets die quietly. A translated page is not a localized page. We publish in English, German, Spanish, and French with native adaptation rather than a translation layer, because a page that reads like software costs conversion in exactly the marketplaces where you have the least visibility to notice. ## The benchmark to hold any vendor to Ask a creative vendor what happened to the conversion rate on their last three revamps. Not the design awards, not the before and after images. The number. Most cannot answer, because most creative work is sold as a deliverable rather than as an outcome and nobody goes back to read the metric. That is the honest state of the category and it is why so many revamps feel expensive. Anyone who can answer has been measuring, and measuring is the whole difference between design and merchandising. Hold a full-service partner to the outcome one level up. Ours is that a majority of the brands we manage are profitable within their first year, and any team asking for a monthly fee should be willing to name the outcome standard it holds itself to and how often it misses. ## What most agencies will not tell you A revamp on a product with weak demand is expensive decoration. Creative multiplies whatever demand exists, and multiplying a small number gives you a small number. Check the category size and the search volume before commissioning a photographer, because the cheapest revamp is the one you correctly decided not to do. The second thing: most revamp budgets are spent in the wrong order. The storefront page is the most enjoyable thing to redesign and the least consequential. Far more shoppers see your main image in a crowded search results grid than will ever click through to a curated brand page. Fix the thumbnail that competes for the click, then the page that has to close the sale, then the storefront. The third: a revamp with no measurement plan is unfalsifiable. Record sessions, unit session percentage, and return rate for the four weeks before, change one layer at a time, and read the same numbers four weeks after. Change everything at once and you will never know which part worked. ## Related answers - [Amazon store setup and A+ content services](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-store-setup-and-a-content-services) - [Managed Amazon storefront design and strategy](https://flapen.com/blog/managed-amazon-storefront-design-and-strategy) - [Amazon listing optimization tools vs human experts](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-listing-optimization-tools-vs-human-experts) - [What does a good Amazon account audit include](https://flapen.com/blog/what-does-a-good-amazon-account-audit-include) - [Build vs buy for your Amazon channel: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/build-vs-buy) If you want your current conversion rate and image performance read before you commission anything, the free written audit covers both at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Compare Amazon business models](https://flapen.com/guides/business-models) - [Value your Amazon business](https://flapen.com/tools/business-value-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**How often should a listing be revamped?Do I need video?Should I use a design tool or hire people? Can the same creative run in every marketplace? What does a revamp cost inside a managed service? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
