Ours is free in 48 hours.","A productized audit is a fixed-scope written report delivered on a clock, covering listing quality, primary image click-through, conversion rate, advertising, traffic channel activation, pricing, and return rate. Ours is free and lands within 48 hours. Ranked fixes, named owners, and no sales call required to read it.

## The short version

- **Fixed scope, fixed clock, written output.** If any of the three is missing, it is a sales call with a spreadsheet attached.
- **The deliverable is a ranked list, not a finding count.** Forty observations ordered by impact beats two hundred unordered ones.
- **Every finding needs an owner and an effort estimate.** Otherwise nothing in the document is actionable.
- **Conversion comes before advertising in the ordering.** Spending against a page that does not convert is the most expensive mistake on Amazon.
- **A free audit that cannot be read without a meeting is not free.** You are paying in pipeline time.

## Why I trust the audit format at all

Before Flapen I ran data and technology at BRANDED and at Moonshot Brands, two large Amazon aggregators, which meant I sat on the buyer's side of this exact transaction. We commissioned audits constantly, on acquisition targets and on portfolio brands, and the pattern was consistent. The useful ones were boring documents with numbers and an order of operations. The useless ones were beautifully designed and ended on a proposal slide.

What made the difference was not the analyst's skill. It was whether the scope had been fixed in advance. An open-ended audit drifts toward whatever the auditor is good at selling. A productized one has to cover the same seven areas for every account, which means the auditor has to report the areas where nothing is wrong, and that is the part you actually need.

## The seven areas a productized audit must cover

1. **Listing quality.** Title structure, bullets, backend terms, A+ presence and content, variation family integrity, and suppressed or stranded inventory.
2. **Primary image click-through.** Whether the main image is winning attention in the search grid, and what the nearest competing images are doing differently.
3. **Conversion rate.** Session-to-order performance by ASIN against category expectations, with the specific reasons for any gap.
4. **Advertising performance.** Structure, wasted spend, search term harvesting, placement performance, and whether targets are set by product stage.
5. **Traffic channel activation.** Which sources are actually running versus which are assumed to be running.
6. **Pricing.** Position against the set the customer is comparing you to, promotion history, and margin impact of any current discount.
7. **Return rate.** Rate by ASIN, reason codes, and whether returns are a product defect, an expectation defect, or a sizing defect.

The ordering matters as much as the list. If your conversion rate is low, no amount of ad spend fixes it. Money poured onto a page that converts poorly buys expensive traffic that leaves, and every extra dollar makes the account look worse rather than better. A report that opens with campaign restructuring while conversion sits unexamined has been written backwards.

## Failure modes, ranked by what they cost

| Failure mode | What it looks like | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| The audit is a pitch | Findings are vague, remedies all require the auditor | A month of evaluation time and no usable document |
| No ranking | Every finding presented as equally urgent | Your team fixes the easy things and misses the expensive one |
| Advertising first, conversion never | Deep campaign analysis, no session data | Increased spend against an unchanged conversion problem |
| No baseline recorded | No before numbers captured | You can never prove whether anything worked |
| Findings without owners | A list of what is wrong, nothing about who fixes it | The document is filed and forgotten within a week |
| Tool output pasted in | Screenshots from a keyword tool, no interpretation | You paid for a subscription you could have bought yourself |

The second row is the one I would watch hardest. An unranked audit shifts the hardest judgment call, which is what to do first, back onto the person who commissioned it because they did not know the answer.

## How to use the report once you have it

Take the top five findings and assign each to one of three buckets: fix this week, fix this quarter, and needs a decision from me. The third bucket is where the real value sits, because it usually contains pricing, product, or whether a given ASIN should continue at all. Then record the baseline numbers for each affected ASIN on the day you receive the report. Conversion rate, sessions, ACoS, return rate, rating. Without that snapshot, every claim about improvement in the next six months is unfalsifiable.

Our own version runs the same way for everyone: a written report with prioritized fixes inside 48 hours at no charge, and if you take the findings to another team to implement, that is a legitimate outcome. If our audit does not tell you something you did not already know, you have learned something useful about us.

## What audit providers will not tell you

The economics of a free audit are simple. It is a lead-generation cost, and the pressure inside the business is to make the report scary enough to convert. That pressure produces two habits worth naming. The first is inflating finding counts, because two hundred issues sounds more alarming than the eleven that matter. The second is omitting the areas where the account is healthy, because good news does not sell.

You can defend against both. Ask for the findings ranked by expected revenue impact, and ask explicitly which areas came back clean. A team that will put its clean findings in writing is a team that is describing your account rather than describing your fear.

## Related answers

- [What does a good Amazon account audit include](/blog/what-does-a-good-amazon-account-audit-include)
- [Amazon agency red flags to watch out for](/blog/amazon-agency-red-flags-to-watch-out-for)
- [Questions to ask before hiring an Amazon agency](/blog/questions-to-ask-before-hiring-an-amazon-agency)
- [Recommend tools and services for Amazon storefront revamp](/blog/recommend-tools-and-services-for-amazon-storefront-revamp)
- [Build vs buy for your Amazon channel: the complete guide](/blog/build-vs-buy)

The 48-hour written audit is free and yours to take anywhere, from [Flapen](/amazon-consulting).

## Keep learning

- [Compare Amazon business models](/guides/business-models)
- [Value your Amazon business](/tools/business-value-calculator)
","published","working-with-agencies",[14,15,16,17],"listing-setup","product-images","ppc","organic-ranking","joel-turcotte-gaucher","/images/blog/clusters/build-vs-buy-09.jpg","2026-09-04T05:03:51.798+00:00
[23,27,31,35,39
"recommend-a-productized-amazon-account-audit-faq-1","Turnaround should be measured in days.
