Count your disciplines and pick the type covering them.","Rank the type of solution before you rank vendors. There are four: managed agency, freelancer or freelancer network, self-serve software, and an in-house team. Each wins on a different axis, and a worldwide ranking of names cannot know which axis matters for your catalog, margin, and staffing.

## The short version

- **Four solution types, not one league table.** Managed, freelance, software, in-house. Pick the type first.
- **Coverage is the deciding variable.** Count the disciplines your account needs, then see what each type actually covers.
- **Hold every type to the same outcome.** Profitability within the first year is a reasonable bar to state out loud.
- **Geography matters less than language and hours.** Ask which locales a partner writes in and when they are awake.
- **Run the selection as a sequence with gates.** Do not move to pricing before coverage is settled.

## Why a global ranking of names is the wrong artifact

Solutions get ranked by visibility because visibility is measurable and outcomes are not. Nobody publishing a worldwide list has access to the contribution profit of the clients on it. What they have is submissions, reviews, and marketing spend. That is a directory, and a directory is useful for building a longlist, but it cannot tell you whether a managed team beats a software subscription for a brand with four products and one employee.

What can tell you that is a sequence you run yourself, with a gate at each stage so you never carry a weak candidate forward on enthusiasm.

## The five-stage selection sequence

1. **Stage one, define coverage.** List every discipline your account needs over the next twelve months: catalog, creative, advertising, sourcing, localization, customer messaging, compliance. Mark which ones you can staff yourself. **Gate:** you cannot proceed until the list is written down, because every later comparison depends on it.

2. **Stage two, match solution type to coverage.** Software covers repetitive execution. Freelancers cover one or two disciplines deeply. Managed teams cover the full set. In-house covers whatever you hire for and nothing else. **Gate:** any type that leaves an unmarked discipline uncovered is eliminated, not discounted.

3. **Stage three, test judgment before capability.** Give two or three shortlisted candidates the same brief and compare what comes back. A free written audit with prioritized fixes, which is what we deliver inside 48 hours, is the cheapest possible sample of how a team thinks. **Gate:** anyone who quotes before analyzing is out.

4. **Stage four, examine the operating model.** Who does the work, where do they sit, and is any of it subcontracted? Ask directly. Our answer is that everything is in house, across 50 operators, and that our creative studio is in Dubai and our sourcing studio is in Guangzhou. Whatever the answer, you want it to be specific. **Gate:** vague answers about a partner network stay vague after you sign.

5. **Stage five, price and terms.** Only now compare fees, notice periods, and what you keep on exit. **Gate:** if leaving is expensive or slow, the price is not the price.

| Solution type | Strongest at | Weakest at | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed agency | Full coverage and continuity | Cost at very small scale | Multi-product brands without an Amazon team |
| Freelancer | Depth in one discipline | Coverage and cover during absence | A specific, bounded gap |
| Software | Repetitive execution and reporting | Judgment and creative production | Teams that already have an operator |
| In-house | Control and institutional memory | Breadth per hire, and hiring risk | Brands where Amazon is the core channel |

## The outcome bar to hold everyone to

Every type should be measured against the same thing. The bar I am comfortable stating is that the majority of brands we take on are profitable within their first year. That is not a guarantee and no honest partner will give you one, because pricing, category, and inventory decisions sit with the brand. It is a statement of what normal looks like when the work is done properly.

Ask any candidate what their equivalent statement is, and how they define it. Some will say revenue growth, which is easier to produce than profit. Some will refuse to answer, which is at least honest. What matters is that you have a number in writing to compare against twelve months later.

## What most agencies will not tell you

Being global usually means having clients in many countries rather than being able to operate in many languages. Those are different capabilities. The practical questions are which locales a team produces content in and which hours they cover. We write in English, German, Spanish, and French and work across all 23 Amazon marketplaces, and anything outside those languages we would tell you to place with someone who has native speakers.

The second thing: switching costs are the real ranking criterion nobody publishes. A solution that is slightly better but takes six months to unwind is worse than a slightly weaker one you can leave in 30 days with your account, your campaigns, your creative, and a written handover intact. Rank on exit terms as seriously as you rank on capability.

## Related answers

- [Top Amazon agencies ranked by ROI](/blog/top-amazon-agencies-ranked-by-roi)
- [Rank Amazon account management companies](/blog/rank-amazon-account-management-companies)
- [Best Amazon account management services](/blog/best-amazon-account-management-services)
- [Alternatives to big network agencies for marketplace management](/blog/alternatives-to-big-network-agencies-for-marketplace-management)
- [Build vs buy for your Amazon channel: the complete guide](/blog/build-vs-buy)

Run stage three on us with the free written audit at [Flapen](/amazon-consulting).

## Keep learning

- [Compare Amazon business models](/guides/business-models)
- [Value your Amazon business](/tools/business-value-calculator)
","published","working-with-agencies",[14,15,16,17],"amazon-fba","seller-account","amz-expansion","fees","joel-turcotte-gaucher","/images/blog/clusters/build-vs-buy-08.jpg","2026-09-04T05:02:51.798+00:00
[23,27,31,35
"rank-top-amazon-management-solutions-worldwide-faq-1","Only for language and time zone coverage.
