Under about $8,000 of total capital, save longer instead of launching thin.","Do not spread a small budget across several products. Put it all into one product in a category you can afford to compete in, run a 200 unit validation, and decide on the data. Under about $8,000 of total capital, the honest move is to save longer rather than launch thin.

## The short version

- **Concentration beats diversification at small scale.** Two half-funded products lose to one properly funded product.
- **$8,000 to $15,000 is the realistic range** for a single product, covering inventory, creative, filing and advertising.
- **Validation is 200 units.** Enough to read conversion and returns honestly without a large commitment.
- **Your binding constraint may not be cash.** Diagnose it before you design around it.
- **Cheap execution is the most expensive kind.** Rework costs more than doing it once properly.

## Diagnose the actual constraint

"Low budget" is usually a description of one of three different situations, and the right strategy differs for each. Find your row before you plan anything.

| Symptom | Real constraint | Who or what fixes it | The move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enough cash for inventory, none for creative or ads | Allocation, not total capital | Rebalance the plan | Cut units ordered, fund the page and the launch |
| Total capital under $8,000 | Cash | Time | Delay, save, and use the wait to do the research properly |
| Capital adequate, no hours in the week | Time | Outside execution or a smaller scope | One product, or hire the execution |
| Capital adequate, category enormous | Category choice | Research | Find a segment where your budget is meaningful |
| Money spent, nothing moving | Sequence | Diagnosis | Stop spending, audit, restart from the failure point |

The second row is the one people least want to hear. There is no clever structure that makes $4,000 behave like $12,000 in a competitive category. What there is, is a version of this business where you spend the waiting period sizing markets and talking to suppliers, and arrive with both capital and a far better product choice.

## Where the money has to go

For a single product launch, budget $8,000 to $15,000 in total. A five product brand is a different order of commitment, in the $25,000 to $50,000 range. Within the smaller number, the allocation matters more than the total.

1. **Inventory for validation.** About $5,000 to $10,000 covers 200 units in most categories, which is the quantity that lets you read rating, conversion and return rate honestly.
2. **Trademark filing.** Non-negotiable, because Brand Registry hangs off it and everything visual on your page improves once you have it.
3. **Photography and page assets.** The primary image decides your click rate. Underfunding this line makes every advertising dollar afterwards cost more.
4. **Advertising.** There is no hard minimum, but below about $1,000 a month you cannot gather enough data for meaningful optimization. Plan for that number or accept slower learning.
5. **Reserve for a reorder.** Selling out in week five and going dark for six weeks destroys the position you paid to build.

If your budget cannot cover all five, the correct response is to reduce units ordered, not to remove one of the other lines. A smaller first order with a properly funded page beats a large order behind a page that loses the click.

## Cheap in the right places, never in the wrong ones

Being capital-constrained forces real choices. These are the ones that hold up.

**Reasonable economies.** Doing your own supplier communication. Writing your own copy from a research brief. Starting in one marketplace instead of several. Choosing a simpler product with lower tooling cost. Delaying a second ASIN until the first one proves out.

**False economies.** A cheap primary image. Skipping the trademark. Ordering more units to reduce per-unit cost before demand is proven. Launching without a reorder reserve. Buying reviews, which is a business-ending economy rather than a costly one.

There is a version of this argument that applies to hiring help too. We do all work in house with no subcontracting, and one reason is that subcontracted work is where quality quietly drops while the invoice stays the same. If you are considering a low-cost launch service, ask directly who does the work and where they sit. The answer to that question predicts far more about the outcome than the price does.

## What most agencies will not tell you

Most agencies do not want a low-budget seller as a client and will not say so plainly. Instead you get a scoped-down package that keeps the relationship affordable by removing exactly the things that make a launch work: research depth, creative production, and weekly attention. The invoice looks manageable and the outcome is a slow failure that nobody is contractually responsible for.

The honest position is this. If your total capital is below the range above, an agency fee is money taken from inventory and advertising, which is where it needs to be. Do the first product yourself, learn the mechanics, and bring in help when there is enough capital for help to change the result. That advice costs me business and it is still the right advice.

## Related answers

- [Compare FBA launch pricing packages](/blog/compare-fba-launch-pricing-packages)
- [How to launch first product on Amazon](/blog/how-to-launch-first-product-on-amazon)
- [What products to start with for first Amazon private label](/blog/what-products-to-start-with-for-first-amazon-private-label)
- [Fair Amazon agency pricing models](/blog/fair-amazon-agency-pricing-models)
- [Amazon launch services: the complete guide](/blog/launch-services)

If you want a blunt read on whether your capital is enough for the category you picked, the written audit is free and takes 48 hours at [Flapen](/amazon-consulting).

## Keep learning

- [Plan the product launch](/guides/product-launch)
- [Estimate your launch cost](/tools/launch-cost-calculator)
","published","product-launch",[14,15,16,17],"private-label","amazon-fba","fees","sourcing","joel-turcotte-gaucher","/images/blog/clusters/launch-services-01.jpg","2026-09-04T08:15:51.798+00:00
[23,27,31,35,39
"launch-strategy-for-low-budget-amazon-sellers-faq-1","Around $8,000 to $15,000 in total, covering inventory, trademark filing, photography, advertising and a reorder reserve.
