Most first-year suspensions come from verification mismatches and account linking, not from anything a seller did wrong on purpose. ## The short version - **Register in your own legal entity** with documents that match exactly. - **Never share credentials.** Use user permissions with individual logins. - **One account per person.** Linking is the most common unrecoverable suspension. - **Watch account health weekly,** not when something breaks. - **Ask any agency how they access your account.** Shared logins create linkage risk. ## The four categories of suspension I run Flapen with 50 operators managing about 70 brands, and account health monitoring is part of every engagement. New sellers get suspended for a narrow set of reasons. | Category | Typical cause | Recoverable? |
| --- | --- | --- | | Verification | Documents do not match the registration | Usually, with correct documents | | Account linking | Two accounts sharing an IP, device, or details | Difficult. Prevent it | | Performance | Order defect rate, late shipment, cancellation | Yes, with a plan of action | | Policy or IP | Restricted product, IP complaint, listing violation | Depends on the complaint | ### Verification The most common first-year problem and the most avoidable. Your business name, address, bank details, and utility documents must match each other and match the registration exactly. Not approximately. An address abbreviated differently across two documents is enough to trigger a review, and reviews during launch are expensive because inventory sits idle. Prepare documents before registering rather than in response to a request. ### Account linking The one that ends businesses. Amazon links accounts by IP address, device, bank details, tax details, address, and browser fingerprint. Two accounts detected as related can both be suspended, and the appeal is difficult. Practical rules: one account per person, never register from a shared or public network used by another seller, do not use a family member's bank details, and be careful with virtual machines and shared offices. This is also where agency access matters. If an agency logs into your account with shared credentials from an office where they also access other sellers' accounts, you have created exactly the pattern that triggers linkage. The correct structure is user permissions with individual logins, which is how we work: clients own the account and grant Flapen revocable user access. ### Performance metrics Straightforward and mostly within your control. Order defect rate, late shipment rate, pre-fulfillment cancellation rate, and valid tracking rate. FBA handles most of these, which is one of its quieter advantages for new sellers. Return rate deserves separate attention. It is not a suspension metric directly, but a high return rate signals a product or listing accuracy problem that generates the complaints that do lead to suspension. ## What to do in the first 30 days 1. **Register in your own entity** with matched documents and your own bank account. 2. **Enable two-step verification** and never share the primary login. 3. **File your trademark** in your company name, then enroll in Brand Registry. 4. **Set a weekly account health check** in your calendar. 5. **Read the policy pages for your category** before listing, especially for supplements, electronics, and anything with a safety claim. Point five prevents the second most common new-seller problem, which is listing a product in a gated or restricted category and discovering it after inventory has shipped. ## What an agency should do about account health Monitor it weekly and tell you before it becomes a problem. Account health monitoring, case management, and suspension and listing appeals are standard scope for full management. Ask a prospective agency two things. How do they access your account, which should be user permissions rather than shared credentials. And what is their process when a listing is suppressed, which should be same-business-day, because a suppressed listing loses ranking every hour it stays down. ## What most agencies will not tell you Some agencies operate by taking your login and working from their own office. It is convenient and it puts your account in the same environment as every other account they touch. Nobody discusses the linkage implication because it has usually never caused a visible problem. Ask directly how they will access your account. The answer should be individual user permissions under their own named logins, revocable by you at any time. The other thing: an agency cannot fix a verification suspension caused by a mismatched registration you completed before hiring them. That work happens at registration, once, and it is why opening the account yourself carefully matters more than anything an agency does afterwards. ## Related answers - [Amazon Brand Registry support expectations](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-brand-registry-support-expectations) - [Step-by-step Amazon listing setup for first timers](https://flapen.com/blog/step-by-step-amazon-listing-setup-for-first-timers) - [Amazon FBA agency for beginners](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-fba-agency-for-beginners) - [Data ownership in Amazon service agreements](https://flapen.com/blog/data-ownership-in-amazon-service-agreements) - [Hiring an Amazon agency: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/hiring-an-agency) We work through your permissions, never your password.
