Trademark timing, supplier lead time, and your own creative approval speed set the date, not the agency.","About seven months from a standing start to a full brand live and selling. A single product moves faster. The variable that decides your number is not the agency, it is trademark timing, supplier lead time, and how quickly you approve creative. Score those three honestly before you promise anyone a date.

## The short version

- **Seven months is the realistic figure for a full brand launch.** One product on its own is considerably quicker.
- **Three inputs set the schedule.** Trademark and Brand Registry, supplier and freight, and your own approval speed.
- **Approval speed is the one you control and the one that slips most.** Creative waiting on a decision is the commonest hidden delay.
- **Advertising is not the long pole.** Campaigns can be live within days of a listing going up.
- **Score yourself before you commit to a date.** The table below turns the three inputs into weeks.

## Score your own timeline

Work through this and add the weeks. It produces a range, not a promise, and a range you can defend is worth more than a date you cannot.

| Input | Fast case | Slow case | What decides which one you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trademark filing to registry access | Weeks, if the mark is clean and the filing route is quick | Many months, if the mark is contested or filed late | Whether you filed before sourcing or after |
| Supplier selection and samples | One sample round, four to six weeks | Three or four rounds across a quarter | How precisely you wrote the specification |
| Production and freight | Weeks by sea on a settled schedule | Longer around factory holidays and peak season | Order timing relative to Chinese New Year and Q4 |
| Creative and listing build | Two to three weeks in parallel with production | Doubles or trebles when approvals sit unanswered | Your response time, not the studio's |
| Listing live to first sales data | Days | Days | Nothing much. This part is fast |
| Advertising to a stable acquisition cost | Measurable improvement inside the first month | Longer where the category is thin or the price is wrong | Data volume, which is a function of budget and traffic |

Add your slow cases. If four of the six land in the slow column, you are looking at a year, and it is better to know that now than to discover it in month five.

### The three that actually move the number

Trademark timing comes first because Brand Registry unlocks A+ content, the Vine program and better protection against hijackers. Filing late does not stop a launch, but it means launching without tools that materially improve conversion, which then distorts every number you measure afterwards.

Supplier lead time is mostly a specification problem. Vague specifications produce sample rounds. Each round is weeks. We run our own sourcing studio in Guangzhou for this reason, using frameworks built across more than 500 brands, and the biggest single saving that setup produces is not price, it is rounds avoided.

Approval speed is yours. During a launch, expect to spend four to six hours a week on decisions. After onboarding, ongoing management is closer to two hours a month. Almost every brand that slips its date slips it because a decision sat unanswered for nine days, not because a partner was slow.

## What the advertising phase actually costs in time

Advertising is where sellers expect the wait, and it is not where the wait is. Campaigns launch within days. What takes time is data, and how you read it changes by stage.

Your target advertising cost of sales at launch should be deliberately aggressive, because you are buying rank, reviews and information rather than immediate profit. At maturity the same product should be run for efficiency, on a much tighter target. Any partner who quotes you one advertising cost of sales number for the whole life of a product has not run a launch. Ask for two numbers, the launch figure and the mature figure, plus the month they expect to move between them.

Our own onboarding runs audit, brand manager assigned, blockers identified, execution, and we expect a measurable improvement in advertising cost of sales inside 30 days. That is a different clock from the launch clock and it is worth keeping the two separate in your plan.

## What most agencies will not tell you

Nobody wants to say seven months during a sales call, because seven months sounds like a reason to talk to someone else. So the timeline quoted is the best case for every stage at once, which is a case that has never happened.

The other omission: a large part of the schedule is not in the agency's control and not in yours either. Trademark offices and factories run at their own speed. What a good partner controls is sequencing, running trademark, sourcing and creative in parallel rather than one after another, and telling you early when a date has moved. Ask any candidate to show you a launch plan with dependencies marked. If everything on their plan is sequential, add months.

## Related answers

- [Timeline for Amazon FBA launch from sourcing to PPC](/blog/timeline-for-amazon-fba-launch-from-sourcing-to-ppc)
- [Common mistakes in Amazon FBA launches and how to avoid](/blog/common-mistakes-in-amazon-fba-launches-and-how-to-avoid)
- [Common delays in Amazon brand launches and how to avoid](/blog/common-delays-in-amazon-brand-launches-and-how-to-avoid)
- [What does a good Amazon account audit include](/blog/what-does-a-good-amazon-account-audit-include)
- [Amazon launch services: the complete guide](/blog/launch-services)

If you want a dated plan with the dependencies marked, that is what the free audit produces at [Flapen](/amazon-consulting).

## Keep learning

- [Plan the product launch](/guides/product-launch)
- [Estimate your launch cost](/tools/launch-cost-calculator)
","published","product-launch",[14,15,16,17],"amazon-fba","private-label","trademark","sourcing","joel-turcotte-gaucher","/images/blog/clusters/launch-services-09.jpg","2026-09-04T08:03:51.798+00:00
[23,27,31,35
"how-long-to-launch-a-new-brand-on-amazon-faq-1","Yes, meaningfully faster, because you are running one supplier relationship and one creative set rather than five.
