Growth work is bounded and compliance work is not, because Amazon controls both the timeline and the outcome. Before paying anything, make somebody size what the suspended listing is actually worth to you. ## The short version - **Pricing follows control.** An agency can control the quality of a plan of action. It cannot control the reviewer who reads it. - **Success fees sound safest and hide the most.** Define "success" precisely or you will pay for a partial reinstatement. - **Hourly is honest and unbounded.** Cap it in writing or it becomes a subscription to an open case. - **Never hand over login credentials.** Access belongs on granted user permissions you can revoke. - **Size the asset first.** Some suspended listings are not worth the rescue budget. ## Why this work is priced differently from everything else Ordinary account work has a knowable scope. A listing rebuild takes a defined number of hours, an advertising restructure has a fixed number of campaigns, and the person doing it controls the quality of the output. Compliance and reinstatement work does not behave that way. You are writing to a counterparty who sets the rules, does not explain their reasoning, and may take days or weeks to respond. A plan of action can be excellent and still be rejected. It can be mediocre and accepted. The agency controls the input entirely and the output not at all. Every pricing model in this corner of the market is an attempt to place that risk with somebody. Hourly places it with you. Fixed fee places it with the agency, which then prices in the worst case. Success fee places it with the agency but changes who decides when to stop. ## The scorecard: how to grade a compliance quote Score each row from 0 to 10, multiply by the weight, then divide by ten. Anything below 70 out of 100 goes back for rework before money moves. | Criterion | Weight | What a strong answer sounds like |
| --- | --- | --- | | Who drafts the appeal | 25 | A named person, with a sample plan of action redacted from a past case | | Definition of success | 20 | Full ASIN reinstatement in writing, not "case closed" or "listing visible" | | Access model | 15 | Granted user permissions on your account, specific roles, revocable by you | | Scope boundary and stop point | 15 | A stated number of submissions, then a decision meeting, not open-ended billing | | Root cause work included | 15 | The supply chain, listing, or policy defect that triggered it gets fixed too | | Experience with your violation type | 10 | Specific to your category and your suspension reason, not generic account health | The weights are deliberate. Drafting quality carries the most because it is the only variable anyone controls. The definition of success comes second because that is where success-fee agreements go wrong: a listing that returns without the buy box, or an ASIN reinstated while the parent stays down, gets billed as a win. ## Reading each pricing model against the scorecard | Model | Who carries the risk | The clause that decides whether it is fair |
| --- | --- | --- | | Hourly | You | A hard cap and a written stop point, agreed before work starts | | Fixed project fee | The agency | What counts as a second case, and whether re-submissions are included | | Success fee | Shared, on paper | The precise definition of reinstatement, and what happens on partial recovery | | Retainer that absorbs it | The agency | Whether compliance is inside the service list or an upsell | We do not run reinstatements as a separate priced product. Compliance sits inside the managed service, and every tier includes the full service list with no add-on charge, which removes the incentive to treat an open case as a billing opportunity. That structure has its own weakness, and I will name it: an agency on a flat fee has a reason to want a case resolved quickly, which is only a good thing if the quality of the submission holds. ## Size the asset before you fund the rescue This is the part almost nobody does. A reinstatement quote arrives, the number looks survivable next to lost revenue, and the check goes out. Nobody asks whether the listing was worth much in the first place. We hold a floor of about $2 million a year in market size before we will take a product seriously, because below that there is not enough revenue to capture profitably once customer acquisition cost is accounted for. That test does not stop applying when a listing goes down. If the ASIN sits in a thin market, was declining before the suspension, and carries a rating problem, the honest recommendation may be to let it go. Compare the two uses of the same money. A rescue budget spent on a weak listing buys back a weak listing. The same amount funds a proper validation run instead: 200 units and $5,000 to $10,000, up to four products tested at once, with real conversion and return-rate data at the end of it. Sometimes the compliance quote is the cheaper option. Sometimes it is the most expensive way to stay attached to something that was already failing. ## What most agencies will not tell you A meaningful share of suspensions are not appeal problems, they are supply chain problems wearing an appeal costume. Inauthentic complaints usually trace to a sourcing gap. Safety and condition complaints usually trace to packaging or a manufacturing tolerance. Getting the listing back without fixing that guarantees a second suspension, and the second one is harder. The other thing worth saying plainly: nobody has a special relationship with Amazon that gets cases decided faster, and anybody implying they do should be struck off your list immediately. What actually varies is the quality of the evidence and the clarity of the writing. We will look at an account and produce a written report with prioritized fixes inside 48 hours at no charge, including where the compliance exposure sits. Use that kind of assessment, from us or anyone, before you commit to a paid rescue. ## Related answers - [Amazon brand rescue services pricing for suspended listings](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-brand-rescue-services-pricing-for-suspended-listings) - [Pay-as-you-go Amazon account audit options](https://flapen.com/blog/pay-as-you-go-amazon-account-audit-options) - [What does a good Amazon account audit include](https://flapen.com/blog/what-does-a-good-amazon-account-audit-include) - [Contract terms to negotiate with Amazon agencies](https://flapen.com/blog/contract-terms-to-negotiate-with-amazon-agencies) - [Amazon agency pricing and economics: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/pricing-and-economics) If a listing is down, start with the free written audit at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting) before you pay anyone a rescue fee. ## Keep learning - [Compare Amazon business models](https://flapen.com/guides/business-models) - [Value your Amazon business](https://flapen.com/tools/business-value-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**Is a success fee always better than hourly?Should I give an agency my Seller Central login?Does compliance work belong in the monthly retainer? How fast should a reinstatement move? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
