Cleanup comes first from a written rule set, and each bundle is a new product.","Bundle creation is a merchandising decision and catalog cleanup is a data one. Treat them as two jobs with two kinds of provider. Cleanup can go to a careful specialist working from your rules. Bundles need someone who owns pricing, images, and ad structure, because all three have to move together.

## The short version

- **Two different jobs.** One is judgment about what to sell together. The other is discipline applied to thousands of fields.
- **A bundle is a new product, not a listing edit.** New cost, new margin, new keywords, new images, new campaigns.
- **Cleanup pays first.** Duplicate and orphaned listings quietly split your reviews and your ranking history.
- **Never let a cleanup crew guess.** Give them the rule set. Ambiguity is where catalogs get destroyed.
- **Ask who signs off on the parent-child structure.** That one decision moves more revenue than the rest of the cleanup combined.

## What I learned buying this work, not selling it

Before Flapen, I ran data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two large Amazon aggregators. Part of that job was inheriting other people's catalogs after acquisition, and then hiring vendors to fix them. Almost every acquired brand had the same three problems: variations that should have been one family sitting as separate listings, bundles created for a promotion nobody remembered, and attribute fields filled in by four different people over three years.

The vendors we hired for cleanup fell into two groups. The ones who asked for our rules before touching anything did good work. The ones who promised to "clean the catalog" without asking what clean meant produced a tidy catalog that ranked worse than the mess. That experience is why I ask buyers to separate the two jobs.

## Three ways to buy it, compared

| Option | Best at | Where it fails | Sensible use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer or catalog VA | Bulk edits, flat file work, following a rule set | Deciding what the rule should be | Cleanup with your decisions already made |
| Catalog software | Finding duplicates, missing attributes, error reports | Merchandising, images, ad consequences | Diagnosis and ongoing monitoring |
| Full-service management | Bundles, pricing, creative, and campaigns moving together | Overkill for a one-off tidy-up | Anything that changes what you sell |

The decision rule is short. If the task is executing a decision you have already made, buy hands or software. If the task includes making the decision, buy an operator who is accountable for the sales number afterwards.

## Bundles: what actually has to happen

A bundle looks like a listing exercise and behaves like a product launch. Doing it properly means:

1. **Pick the combination from demand, not from inventory.** The right bundle answers a question buyers are already asking. The wrong one moves slow stock and dies quietly.
2. **Rebuild the economics.** New landed cost, new packaging, new FBA dimensions and fees, new margin. A bundle priced by adding the parts together is usually unsellable.
3. **Treat it as a new keyword set.** Bundle buyers search differently from single-unit buyers. The listing needs its own keyword work, not a copy of the parent.
4. **Shoot new images.** A bundle photographed as a pile of separate boxes converts badly. Our creative studio in Dubai handles this in-house because outsourced image work loses a week per revision cycle.
5. **Give it its own campaigns.** A bundle sharing campaigns with the single unit will cannibalize it, and you will not be able to see which one is actually profitable.
6. **Decide in advance how you will judge it.** Set the window and the number before launch, so retiring the bundle is a decision rather than an argument.

## Cleanup: what to fix, in order

Start with the items that damage ranking and reviews, then move to hygiene.

First, duplicates and orphans, because they split review counts and sales history across listings that should be one. Second, variation families, since a wrongly structured parent hides your best-converting child. Third, category and browse node placement, which decides which competitors you sit beside. Fourth, attribute completeness, which drives filter eligibility. Fifth, images and A plus content, which is where the conversion gain actually shows up. Sixth, retiring listings you will never sell again.

Do it as flat file exports with a change log, never as ad hoc edits by several people at once. If something goes wrong, the log is how you find out what.

## What most agencies will not tell you

Catalog cleanup is the least glamorous work on Amazon and often the highest return per hour, which is exactly why it gets quoted as an add-on and then deprioritised in favor of advertising. Advertising is easier to show in a report. A merged variation family that lifts conversion across six children does not make a nice slide.

The second thing: cleanup is not a project, it is a habit. A catalog drifts every time someone adds a product in a hurry. Ask any provider how catalog hygiene is maintained monthly rather than what the one-time cleanup costs. Our tiers include the full service set at every price point precisely so this kind of work never becomes a separate line item someone has to justify.

## Related answers

- [What to use for Amazon catalog cleanup](/blog/what-to-use-for-amazon-catalog-cleanup)
- [Amazon store management outsourcing pros and cons](/blog/amazon-store-management-outsourcing-pros-and-cons)
- [What does a good Amazon account audit include](/blog/what-does-a-good-amazon-account-audit-include)
- [How to audit an Amazon agency's results](/blog/how-to-audit-an-amazon-agency-s-results)
- [Amazon agency pricing and economics: the complete guide](/blog/pricing-and-economics)

If you want the catalog reviewed before you decide who does the work, start with the free audit at [Flapen](/amazon-consulting).

## Keep learning

- [Compare Amazon business models](/guides/business-models)
- [Value your Amazon business](/tools/business-value-calculator)
","published","working-with-agencies",[14,15,16,17],"listing-setup","amazon-fba","product-images","seller-account","joel-turcotte-gaucher","/images/blog/clusters/pricing-and-economics-04.jpg","2026-09-04T03:48:51.798+00:00
[23,27,31,35,39
"bundle-creation-and-catalog-cleanup-services-for-amazon-faq-1","After, in almost every case.
