Any vendor missing two of the five is selling production, not sales. ## The short version - **Judge a service by the questions it asks before quoting.** No questions about your market and reviews means a template is coming. - **Review-driven scripting separates the sellers from the filmmakers.** The objection in your one-star reviews is the script. - **Muted mobile playback is the default viewing condition.** A service that leans on voiceover has not watched its own work in place. - **Compliance review must be included, not assumed.**- **The best services also tell you when video is not your problem.**## The ten-point evaluation checklist Score any candidate service against these. Eight or more, hire them. Six or seven, negotiate the gaps into the agreement. Five or fewer, keep looking. 1. **They ask for your listing, your reviews, and your competitors before quoting.** Done properly, the discovery questions arrive before the price does. 2. **The script targets one objection.** Done properly, they can tell you which review sentences the script came from. 3. **The first seconds carry the proof.** Done properly, the storyboard shows the strongest moment at the very front, built for autoplay. 4. **On-screen text does the persuading.** Done properly, the cut works with the sound off, which is how most shoppers will meet it. 5. **Deliverables include placement variants.** Done properly, the quote lists the listing cut plus ratio and length versions for ads and the storefront. 6. **Compliance is a named step.** Done properly, someone signs off claims against Amazon's current content policy before upload. 7. **You get source files and full usage rights.** Done properly, the contract says so without you asking twice. 8. **Revision terms are written.** Done properly, a defined number of rounds with a response time, not goodwill. 9. **They commit to a measurement window.** Done properly, the service expects to be judged on conversion rate movement, and says so unprompted. 10. **They will tell you not to buy.** Done properly, a service that sees a pricing or review problem says video will not fix it. This one is rare and worth the most. ## The stop-condition test Point ten deserves its own section, because it is the sharpest filter I know for any vendor, video included. We run every product against explicit **scale, fix, or kill criteria**, rating trend, return rate, conversion rate, and the trajectory of acquisition cost over a defined window. Creative spend obeys the same gates. If a product is heading for a kill decision, we do not commission new video for it, and we say why. I hold this rule because I broke it once. Early on, I kept pouring money into a failing product for three months, hoping better ads would turn it around. They did not, and no video would have either. Ask any production service the same question you should ask an agency: what would you see in my numbers that would make you tell me to stop spending with you. A service with no answer has no stop condition, and a vendor with no stop condition is a cost that compounds. ## What video services will not tell you Video is downstream of the listing. If your price is wrong, your reviews are weak, or your images lose the thumbnail contest, a video cannot carry the conversion on its own, and the service selling it to you rarely volunteers that. The honest sequence is to fix the gallery and copy first, then let video do its real job, which is resolving the last objection. It is why our video briefs are generated inside [listing optimization](https://flapen.com/amazon-listing-optimization) work, not sold beside it. The second silence is about measurement. Most services never learn whether their videos sell, because no client reports back. Insist on the before-and-after conversion comparison, even if you have to run it yourself. ## Related answers - [Step-by-step workflow to produce Amazon listing videos](https://flapen.com/blog/step-by-step-workflow-to-produce-amazon-listing-videos) - [Alternatives to big-name Amazon video studios](https://flapen.com/blog/alternatives-to-big-name-amazon-video-studios) - [Who can do 360 product spins for Amazon](https://flapen.com/blog/who-can-do-360-product-spins-for-amazon) - [Affordable Amazon product demo video creators](https://flapen.com/blog/affordable-amazon-product-demo-video-creators) - [Amazon creative services: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/creative-services) Apply all ten checklist points to [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting) before you sign anything. ## Keep learning - [Optimize the listing](https://flapen.com/guides/listing-optimization) - [Run the review math](https://flapen.com/tools/review-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**What makes a listing video service "Amazon-specific"?How many videos does one listing need?Should the video service also write the script? What is a fair revision policy? How soon after upload can I judge the video? What score on the ten-point checklist is enough to hire? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
