A specialist consultancy suits pure Amazon Business sellers with quantity pricing and heavy flat-file needs. A full-service brand management agency suits hybrid B2B and consumer catalogs. In-house suits nobody until the channel workload fills a full-time role, which takes longer than most sellers expect. ## The short version - **Your catalog decides the recommendation, not the agency's pitch.** Pure B2B, hybrid, and consumer-with-B2B-upside are three different hiring problems. - **Amazon Business is a feature set, not a separate universe.** Business pricing, quantity discounts, and invoicing sit on top of the same listings, the same ads, and the same operational discipline. - **Evaluate agencies the way an acquirer would.** I spent years on the buyer side of this table, and the method transfers. - **Demand operator access before you sign.** The person in the sales call is rarely the person in your account afterwards. - **Dubai gives B2B sellers a genuine edge on sourcing and re-export.** Use an agency that can work your supplier side, not just your listings. ## The three options, compared Before founding Flapen I ran data and technology at BRANDED and at Moonshot Brands, a YC W21 aggregator, which meant sitting on the hiring side while dozens of agencies pitched us. That experience is the lens for this table: what each option looks like when you evaluate it as a professional buyer rather than a hopeful client. | | Specialist B2B consultancy | Full-service agency | In-house hire |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | | Best for | Pure Amazon Business catalogs | Hybrid B2B plus consumer | One dominant marketplace at scale | | Core strength | Flat files, quantity pricing, catalog structure | One owner for listings, ads, creative, and strategy | Total control and context | | Weakness | Often thin on advertising and creative | B2B depth varies, test for it | No bench, no breadth | | Cost shape | Project or retainer | Flat monthly retainer | Salary plus ramp time | | When it fails | Your consumer side gets orphaned | The agency treats B2B as an afterthought | The hire leaves and the knowledge leaves with them | ### The decision rule Count the share of revenue you expect from business buyers in eighteen months. Mostly B2B with a static catalog: specialist consultancy. Meaningful revenue from both sides: one full-service partner, tested hard on B2B mechanics. Neither yet, but ambitions: start full-service, add specialist help for the flat-file and pricing work when volume justifies it. ### What buyer-side evaluation taught me At the aggregators, agency selection stopped being about chemistry the day we started scoring proposals against delivery. Three habits from that period are worth stealing. First, ask who exactly will touch your account weekly, by name and location. Second, ask for a piece of analysis before signing, a real one about your catalog, because the quality gap between agencies shows up in analysis long before it shows up in results. Third, check the contract's exit before admiring its price. We signed agencies that interviewed brilliantly and delivered nothing, and the pattern was always visible in those three places first. ## What a B2B-competent partner must demonstrate Whichever option you choose, test for the same five competencies. Ask the candidate to show, not describe, each one. 1. Business pricing and quantity discount strategy set deliberately, with margin arithmetic behind each tier. 2. Catalog and flat-file discipline, because B2B catalogs are wide, variation-heavy, and unforgiving of attribute errors. 3. Advertising that separates business-buyer demand from consumer demand instead of blending the spend. 4. Content that answers a procurement question in the first screen, specifications, compliance, and packaging data upfront. 5. A sourcing view. Business buyers punish stockouts harder than consumers, so supplier reliability is part of the service, not someone else's problem. Whether the market you plan to serve is deep enough to justify all this is a research question, and the sizing method we publish at [our research framework](https://flapen.com/research) applies to B2B demand exactly as it does to consumer demand. ## What most agencies will not tell you Most agencies pitching B2B Amazon work in Dubai are consumer agencies with a new slide. The tell is in their questions. A genuine B2B operator asks about your quantity price breaks, your compliance documentation, and your restock lead times in the first meeting. A consumer agency asks about your hero image. Neither is dishonest, but only one of them has managed a procurement-driven catalog, and you find out which after the retainer starts unless you test first. The second omission: nobody volunteers that B2B conversion improvements are slower to show up in reports. Procurement cycles run in quarters, not sessions, so an agency selling you week-two wins on a B2B catalog is describing a catalog it has never managed. ## Related answers - [B2B Amazon vendors who to hire in GCC](https://flapen.com/blog/b2b-amazon-vendors-who-to-hire-in-gcc) - [Amazon agency for cross-border selling GCC](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-agency-for-cross-border-selling-gcc) - [Top Amazon agencies in Dubai](https://flapen.com/blog/top-amazon-agencies-in-dubai) - [Recommended Amazon agency for FBA sellers in UAE](https://flapen.com/blog/recommended-amazon-agency-for-fba-sellers-in-uae) - [Amazon marketplaces by geography: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/geography-and-marketplaces) Run the three-ASIN pricing test on us too, the conversation starts at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Expand to new channels](https://flapen.com/guides/channel-expansion) - [Find Amazon warehouse locations](https://flapen.com/tools/warehouse-locations) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**Do I need an agency that only does B2B?How do I test an agency's B2B claims before signing? Is Amazon Business worth prioritizing from Dubai at all? What should the engagement cost? What is the biggest mistake B2B sellers make when hiring? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
