Brand Registry unlocks A+ content and Brand Story, so demand a rebuilt page and a held rank.","Hire for indexing and conversion, not for keyword lists. A Brand Registry seller gets A+ content, Brand Story, and the search tools that move performance, so the real work is listing structure, images, and rank held over time. Ask any expert to show a keyword that moved and the revenue that followed it.

## The short version

- **Ranking is bought with conversion.** Amazon promotes the listing that turns a click into a sale, so page quality is the ranking lever.
- **Brand Registry changes the toolkit.** A+ content, Brand Story, and brand analytics are levers an unregistered seller does not have.
- **A keyword report is not a deliverable.** The deliverable is a rebuilt page and a rank position defended for a quarter.
- **Watch for work that stops at the title.** Backend terms, images, and A+ modules all move indexing and conversion.
- **Ask what they will not do.** Anyone promising rank without touching the product page is selling a report.

## What I learned buying this service, not selling it

Before Flapen, I ran data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two large Amazon aggregators. Part of that job was hiring agencies and specialists for portfolios of acquired brands, then measuring whether they had done anything. It taught me one thing about search work that changed how I buy it: almost every proposal I received was a keyword deliverable, and almost none of them tied a keyword to revenue.

A keyword list is cheap to produce and impossible to be wrong about. A rank position held for a quarter, on a term that converts, is expensive to produce and easy to audit. When you are hiring, insist on the second thing.

## Failure modes, ranked by what they cost

These are the ways search work on a Brand Registry account goes wrong, ordered from most expensive to least.

| Failure | What it costs | How to test for it before hiring |
|---|---|---|
| Ranking a page that does not convert | The worst outcome. Traffic arrives, bounces, and the drop in conversion pushes rank back down while you pay for the clicks | Ask how they decide whether a listing is ready to be ranked at all |
| Rewriting the title and calling it done | Months of flat performance, because indexing was never the whole problem | Ask for a full page audit, including images, A+ modules, and backend terms |
| Chasing high volume head terms | Ad and promotion budget spent competing where you cannot win, against brands with a rating and review base you do not have | Ask which terms they would ignore for the first 90 days, and why |
| Keyword stuffing the backend | Indexing noise, no relevance gain, and occasional listing suppression | Ask what they put in backend fields and what they deliberately leave out |
| Ignoring the rating gap | You rank, shoppers compare you to a 4.6 with 900 reviews, and they buy the other one | Ask how they read competitor ratings and negative reviews before writing anything |
| Treating A plus content as decoration | A brand tool that could lift conversion sits unused | Ask to see A+ modules built to answer objections, not to look tidy |

The top row is the one that costs the most and gets the least attention. If your conversion rate is low, no amount of ad spend fixes it. Traffic into a page that does not sell is a bill, not a strategy, and the same is true for organic traffic that a search specialist has worked hard to earn.

## What the work looks like when it is done properly

Three things happen in order, and any candidate should describe them without prompting.

First, the page is diagnosed against the competitors who currently hold the position: their main image, their price, their rating, and above all what their negative reviews complain about. Differentiation comes from that gap, never from invention.

Second, the page is rebuilt to convert. Main image, gallery sequence, bullets that answer the objections found in those reviews, A+ modules that carry the proof, and Brand Story for the range. Only then does indexing become worth pursuing.

Third, terms are chosen where you can realistically win, traffic is pushed at them, and the position is defended. This is the slow part, and it is measured in quarters rather than weeks.

At Flapen this sits inside a wider audit that also covers primary image click-through rate, ad performance, pricing, and return rate, because search work in isolation usually treats a symptom.

## What most agencies will not tell you

Search performance on Amazon is not a separate discipline. It is a consequence of conversion, rating, price, and availability, and any of those four can undo a perfect keyword strategy in a week. A stockout costs rank. A price rise that breaks the value comparison costs rank. A slide from 4.5 to 4.1 costs rank.

The second admission: a lot of measured improvement is seasonal or competitive noise. When a report shows rank up on 40 terms, ask what happened to the ones that fell, and ask what units did over the same window. Anyone unwilling to show the losers alongside the winners is presenting, not reporting.

## Related answers

- [Agencies with strong Amazon creative and A+ content](/blog/agencies-with-strong-amazon-creative-and-a-content)
- [What does a good Amazon account audit include](/blog/what-does-a-good-amazon-account-audit-include)
- [KPIs an Amazon agency should report weekly](/blog/kpis-an-amazon-agency-should-report-weekly)
- [Amazon agency red flags to watch out for](/blog/amazon-agency-red-flags-to-watch-out-for)
- [Hiring an Amazon agency: the complete guide](/blog/hiring-an-agency)

The free written audit names the pages worth ranking and the ones worth fixing first, at [Flapen](/amazon-consulting).

## Keep learning

- [Compare Amazon business models](/guides/business-models)
- [Value your Amazon business](/tools/business-value-calculator)
","published","working-with-agencies",[14,15,16,17],"brand-registry","keyword-strategy","organic-ranking","listing-setup","joel-turcotte-gaucher","/images/blog/clusters/hiring-an-agency-09.jpg","2026-09-04T02:04:51.798+00:00
[23,27,31,35,39
"amazon-seo-experts-for-brand-registry-brands-faq-1","A+ content, Brand Story, and brand analytics, plus the ability to control your listing content.
