Full management starts around $800 a month, but the bigger number is total launch capital: $8,000 to $15,000 for a single product. Spend that on validation first. ## The short version - **Validate before you hire.** Phase 1 is 200 units and $5,000 to $10,000. - **Budget $8,000 to $15,000 total** for a single-product launch, fee included. - **Buy the hard-to-do things:** sourcing, quality control, photography, video. - **Do not buy management for an unvalidated product.** That is optimizing a guess. - **A full brand launch runs about seven months** and needs 4 to 6 hours a week from you. ## What a beginner should and should not outsource I run Flapen with 50 operators managing about 70 brands. Beginners rarely waste money on the wrong agency. They waste it by buying the wrong thing at the wrong time. | Task | Buy it? | Why |
| --- | --- | --- | | Market and product research | Partly | Learn the method, buy the data depth | | Sourcing and quality control | Yes | Hardest to do remotely, most expensive to get wrong | | Photography and video | Yes | Primary image click-through rate caps everything downstream | | Listing creation | Yes | Cheap relative to its effect on conversion | | Ongoing PPC management | Not yet | Needs validated product and about $1,000 a month spend | | Ongoing brand management | Not yet | Belongs in Phase 2, after validation | The pattern: buy capability you cannot build quickly, and delay recurring fees until there is something worth managing. ## The sequence that protects your capital Two phases. Phase 1 validates. Start with 200 units, test up to four products at once, and spend $5,000 to $10,000 depending on your traffic strategy. Phase 2 scales, and you only enter it once rating, conversion rate, and cost of customer acquisition are proven. Most beginners invert this. They pick one product, order 2,000 units, hire a manager, and discover in month four that the market was never big enough. We use a $2 million per year minimum market size as the floor, because below that there is not enough revenue to capture profitably once you account for cost of customer acquisition. I learned the inversion the expensive way, pouring money into a failing product for three months hoping the ads would turn around. They did not. ## What does it cost to start with an agency Separate the fee from the capital, because they are different money. The fee at Flapen is $800 a month for one product, rising to $2,400 for five, and every tier includes the full service set with no commission and no onboarding fee. Paid separately at any agency: inventory, Amazon's seller fees, trademark filing, freight, and ad spend. Total upfront capital for a single-product launch runs $8,000 to $15,000 including all of that. A five-product brand is typically $25,000 to $50,000. If a proposal does not separate fee from pass-through costs, ask for one that does before comparing. ## How involved will I be More than most beginners expect, and that is a good sign. A full brand launch runs about seven months and needs 4 to 6 hours a week from you. You approve product selections, creative direction, and key decisions while the team handles factory communication, design rounds, campaign structure, and Seller Central setup. Once the brand is launched and running, that drops to about 2 hours a month. An agency that tells a beginner they need zero involvement is selling passivity. The decisions that matter most, which product and which market, are yours. ## What to ask before you hire as a beginner 1. **Can you size my market before you quote me?** If the price comes first, they are selling hours. 2. **Which of the 5 traffic channels do you run?** Most run two: organic and Sponsored Products. 3. **Whose name goes on the Seller Central account?** Yours, always. Open it yourself. 4. **What would make you tell me to stop?** Kill criteria, named. 5. **What is not included in the fee?** Inventory, fees, freight, trademark, ad spend. Question three is the one beginners get wrong most often, because letting the agency set up the account is convenient and makes your business an asset inside their organization. ## What most agencies will not tell you An agency will rarely tell a beginner that they are not ready. The incentive points the other way, and the honest answer costs a sale. Here is the honest answer. If you have not chosen a market, no agency can help you yet, because nobody can manage a decision you have not made. If you have chosen a market that is too small, better sourcing and better creative will not rescue it. The most valuable thing an agency can do for a beginner is the market analysis that happens before any money moves, and some of the time that analysis says do not launch this. Take a free audit or a market sizing before you commit to a monthly fee. It is the cheapest information you will ever buy. ## Related answers - [Affordable Amazon account management for startups](https://flapen.com/blog/affordable-amazon-account-management-for-startups) - [Amazon agency vs freelancer pros and cons](https://flapen.com/blog/amazon-agency-vs-freelancer-pros-and-cons) - [Step-by-step Amazon listing setup for first timers](https://flapen.com/blog/step-by-step-amazon-listing-setup-for-first-timers) - [Is full service Amazon management worth it for a single SKU](https://flapen.com/blog/is-full-service-amazon-management-worth-it-for-a-single-sku) - [Hiring an Amazon agency: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/hiring-an-agency) If the market is not big enough, we will tell you before you spend.
