If an agency does not offer it, that usually means they do not run off-channel or influencer traffic at all, which is two of the five traffic channels missing. ## The short version - **Attribution measures off-Amazon traffic.** Without it, external spend is guesswork. - **It requires Brand Registry.** Confirm you own the enrollment. - **An agency that does not offer it probably does not run off-channel traffic.**- **Use it before you scale external spend,** not after. - **Off-channel and influencer are two of the 5 traffic channels most sellers skip.**## What Attribution is for I run Flapen with 50 operators managing about 70 brands, and external traffic strategy and the influencer and affiliate program are part of every membership. There are five ways to capture traffic on Amazon: organic, paid, promotions, influencer and creator, and off-channel. Most sellers run two, and the two they skip most often are influencer and off-channel, partly because until recently they were hard to measure. Attribution closes that gap. It gives you tagged links so traffic from a blog, a social post, an email, or a creator can be traced to clicks, detail page views, and purchases on Amazon. | Traffic source | Measurable without Attribution? | What Attribution adds |
| --- | --- | --- | | Blog and content | No | Clicks, views, purchases per URL | | Social and paid social | No | Which platform and creative converts | | Email | No | List value in Amazon revenue | | Influencer and creator | Barely | Per-creator performance | | Amazon PPC | Yes, natively | Not applicable | ### Why it matters before you scale External traffic is usually launched on faith. A brand runs some paid social, sees Amazon sales move that week, and concludes it worked. It might have been the promotion, the ranking change, or the season. With Attribution the question is answerable per source and per creative. This matters most for the influencer and creator program, which runs on a revenue share model with lower upfront cost and a slower start, because slow-starting channels are exactly the ones people abandon prematurely on ambiguous data. ## Who to ask Ask any candidate three things.**Do you run off-channel and influencer traffic?** If the answer is no, Attribution is irrelevant to them and you have learned something more important about scope.**Do you set up Attribution as standard?** For anyone running external traffic, this should be routine rather than an add-on.**How do you use the data?** The setup is straightforward. The value is in what happens next: which creators to keep, which content converts, and what off-channel cost of customer acquisition looks like against paid. That third question separates agencies that enabled a feature from agencies that use it. ## What good use looks like 1. **Tag every external source separately,** not one link for everything. 2. **Compare cost of customer acquisition per channel,** including off-channel against paid. 3. **Watch the ranking effect.** External traffic that converts supports organic ranking. 4. **Cut creators and content that do not convert,** using data rather than impressions. 5. **Report it weekly** alongside on-platform numbers, in one view. Point two is the whole reason to bother. Cost of customer acquisition by channel is the number that tells you where the next dollar should go, and without Attribution the off-channel row is blank. ## Requirements and limits Attribution requires Brand Registry, so confirm your enrollment is under your own account with your own trademark before anything else. Be realistic about the limits too. Attribution reporting has lag, and cross-device journeys are imperfectly captured, so treat it as directional rather than exact. It is still far better than the alternative, which is attributing external traffic by vibe. ## What most agencies will not tell you Attribution is not offered by most agencies because most agencies do not run the channels it measures. Organic and Sponsored Products is what the industry teaches and therefore what the labor market supplies, so promotions, influencer and creator, and off-channel go uncovered while the fee is priced as a complete growth strategy. That is the finding to take from this question. Asking about Attribution is a fast, technical-sounding way to discover how many of the five traffic channels a candidate actually operates. The second thing: off-channel traffic has a compounding benefit nobody bills for. Traffic that arrives and converts supports organic ranking, which reduces future ad dependence. It is slower than paid and it builds an asset rather than renting one, which is exactly why an agency paid on ad spend has little reason to prioritize it. ## Related answers - [How to choose an Amazon FBA marketing partner](https://flapen.com/blog/how-to-choose-an-amazon-fba-marketing-partner) - [Best agencies for Amazon store design](https://flapen.com/blog/best-agencies-for-amazon-store-design) - [Compare Amazon PPC vs full-service agencies](https://flapen.com/blog/compare-amazon-ppc-vs-full-service-agencies) - [KPIs an Amazon agency should report weekly](https://flapen.com/blog/kpis-an-amazon-agency-should-report-weekly) - [Hiring an Amazon agency: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/hiring-an-agency) We run all five channels and report cost of customer acquisition on each.
