Under three, a dated spreadsheet plus Seller Central reports tracks the timeline for free. Above that, buy a tracker your team knows.","The deciding number is how many launches you run in a year. Under three, a dated spreadsheet plus Seller Central's own reports covers timeline tracking and costs nothing. Above that, buy a project tracker your team already knows. Keyword suites are research tools, and timeline management is a different job.

## The short version

- **Two different jobs get confused here.** Research tooling answers what to sell. Timeline tooling answers whether you are on schedule.
- **Launch count decides the spend.** One or two launches a year does not justify dedicated software.
- **Amazon's own reports are underused.** Much of what people pay for is already in Seller Central.
- **I will not rank named vendors.** I cannot verify anyone else's current pricing or data accuracy in your category.
- **The output matters, not the brand.** Judge any option by whether it produces a dated plan with owners.

## Separate the two jobs first

A keyword and product research suite tells you about demand, competition and search terms. A launch timeline tool tells you whether freight cleared customs, whether the trademark was filed, and whether creative is ready for the date you promised. These are different problems and the second one is almost never solved well by the first.

Most people asking this question have a scheduling problem and are looking for the answer inside a research product because that is the subscription they already pay for. Canceling or replacing it will not fix a launch that slips, because the slippage lives in supplier lead times and internal ownership, not in keyword data.

## The categories of alternative, compared

I will not make claims about any specific vendor's features, pricing or accuracy. I cannot verify them for your category, and anything I wrote would be out of date within a quarter. Here is the honest comparison by category instead.

| Category | Best at | Weakness | Sensible when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared spreadsheet | Dates, owners, exit conditions, zero cost | Nobody enforces it, history is easy to lose | One to three launches a year |
| General project tracker | Dependencies, notifications, multi-person accountability | Generic, needs configuring, easy to over-build | Several launches running in parallel |
| Seller Central native reports | Truth about inventory, advertising and performance | Not a planning surface, no forward dates | Always, alongside whatever else you use |
| Amazon research suites | Demand, competition and keyword data | Not built for scheduling or accountability | Product selection, not timeline management |
| Agency-run tracker | Someone else maintains it, expertise built in | You depend on their discipline and format | You have outsourced execution anyway |
| Custom internal tooling | Fits your exact process | Real build and maintenance cost | Portfolio scale, many brands at once |

We build our own advertising, marketing and brand valuation tools in house, which puts us in the last row. That is a reasonable choice at about 70 brands under management. It would be an unreasonable choice for a seller launching one product, and I would say so to anyone who asked.

## The decision rule

1. **One or two launches a year.** Spreadsheet with owners, dates and exit conditions, plus Seller Central reports. Spend nothing.
2. **Three to six launches a year.** Move to whichever general project tracker your team already opens daily. Familiarity beats features.
3. **Continuous launching across a portfolio.** Consider dedicated or custom tooling, and only then because the manual updating has become unreliable.
4. **Execution outsourced.** Use the operator's tracker, but insist on your own copy of the dates and the gate conditions so you are not dependent on their format.

## Judge the output, not the software

Whatever you choose, the test is the same. Can you see, on one screen, every milestone with a named owner, a date, and the numeric condition that decides whether the next stage starts? If yes, the tool is adequate. If no, a more expensive tool will not save you.

The reason I care about this is the outcome we hold ourselves to. The majority of brands we take on become profitable within their first year, and the difference between the ones that do and the ones that take longer is almost never software. It is whether a decision got made on the date it was supposed to be made.

## What most agencies will not tell you

Tool subscriptions are a comfortable place to feel productive. Buying a research suite feels like progress in a way that phoning three suppliers does not, and the monthly cost is small enough that nobody audits whether it changed a decision. Look at your last two launches and name a specific choice that a subscription altered. If you cannot, you are paying for reassurance.

The second thing: several agencies bundle tool costs into their fee and present the bundle as savings. That can be genuine, and it can also be a way to obscure what the management fee actually is. Ask for the fee and the pass-through tool costs as separate lines before you compare two proposals.

## Related answers

- [What to use for tracking Amazon launch milestones](/blog/what-to-use-for-tracking-amazon-launch-milestones)
- [What tools to use for Amazon product research](/blog/what-tools-to-use-for-amazon-product-research)
- [Recommended software for Amazon brand rollout](/blog/recommended-software-for-amazon-brand-rollout)
- [How long to launch a new brand on Amazon](/blog/how-long-to-launch-a-new-brand-on-amazon)
- [Amazon launch services: the complete guide](/blog/launch-services)

If you would rather someone else own the dates entirely, that is what the managed service does, and it is priced openly at [Flapen](/amazon-consulting).

## Keep learning

- [Plan the product launch](/guides/product-launch)
- [Estimate your launch cost](/tools/launch-cost-calculator)
","published","product-launch",[14,15,16,17],"product-research","keyword-strategy","amazon-fba","competitor-analysis","joel-turcotte-gaucher","/images/blog/clusters/launch-services-04.jpg","2026-09-04T07:48:51.798+00:00
[23,27,31,35,39
"alternatives-to-helium-10-for-launch-timelines-faq-1","Not strictly.
