Choose on who owns the handoffs between keyword research, imagery, and bidding, and on how many brands the named account manager carries. That workload number predicts your response times. ## The short version - **One keyword list should produce all three deliverables.** The terms that shape your title also shape the image brief and the campaign structure. - **Ask what each account manager carries.** Our operators run about 1.4 brands each. Someone carrying eight is selling you a place in a queue. - **A studio that refers advertising out is a studio.** That is a fine thing to be, as long as nobody calls it full service. - **Assets are cheap to commission and expensive to iterate.** Iteration is the part that moves the number. - **Ask for one rebuild with the advertising data from the weeks afterwards.** A portfolio without performance data is decoration. ## The bill for buying the three separately The costly version of this decision is rarely a bad hire. It is three competent hires who never speak to each other. A copywriter picks a benefit-led angle. A photographer shoots a lifestyle set built around a different one. A freelance advertiser bids on head terms the copy never earned relevance for. Every invoice is defensible and the page still converts badly, because a listing is a system and nobody assembled it. You become the assembler by default. During an active launch, plan on four to six hours a week of briefing, reviewing, and translating between vendors who each believe their part is finished. If those hours do not exist in your week, splitting the work is not saving money. It is deferring the work into a slower launch. Two costs deserve naming. The first is elapsed time, because every handoff adds a review cycle and three sequential cycles turn a two week rebuild into six. The second is attribution. When conversion finally improves, you will not know whether copy, imagery, or campaign structure did it, since all three changed on different days with no control. ## Three ways to buy, compared | Dimension | Full-service agency | Creative studio | Freelance stack |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | | Owns keyword research | Yes, and it feeds everything | Sometimes, for copy only | You do, or nobody does | | Produces imagery | Own studio or contracted | Own studio, usually the strength | Separate hire | | Runs campaigns | Own team | Usually referred out | Third hire | | Accountable owner | One named manager | Split across vendors | You | | Your hours per week | Low after onboarding | Medium | High | | Iteration after go live | Continuous, inside the fee | Quoted per revision | Whenever you brief it | | Best fit | Launching or rebuilding a catalog | Strong internal marketing, one creative gap | One product, clear brief, spare time | ### When the full-service route is right When you want a single person answerable for click-through rate, conversion rate, and advertising cost of sale at the same time. Flapen is built this way on purpose: creative comes out of our own Dubai studio, sourcing out of our own Guangzhou studio, and no step is subcontracted, because every subcontracted step adds someone you cannot ask a follow up question on a Tuesday afternoon. The honest weakness is range. A generalist team rarely beats a category specialist on a single asset. If your product needs a food photography look that a niche studio spent a decade perfecting, buy that separately and accept the coordination cost with your eyes open. ### When the studio is right When your listing converts acceptably and the gap is visual, or when you have an internal marketer who can hold the keyword list and brief everyone from it. Ask which people are employees and which parts move to partners. There is no wrong answer. There is a wrong situation, which is not knowing. ### When freelancers are right One product, a clear brief, a founder with time, and a budget that cannot absorb a retainer. Keep the keyword list yourself, in one document, and make every freelancer work from that document. The stack fails when the list lives in three heads. ## Five questions that sort the field 1. **Who writes the image brief?** It should be whoever holds the keyword and conversion data, not the photographer. Photographers execute briefs well and invent them poorly. 2. **How many brands does the person doing my work carry, and how many last year?** The trend matters more than the number. A team quietly absorbing growth by loading its operators will show you that curve. 3. **Which of these five roles are employees?** Copy, imagery, keyword research, campaign management, account health. Count the employees, then count the partners. 4. **What happens in week seven?** If the answer is a new quote, you bought assets, not a launch. 5. **Can you show one rebuild with the advertising data from the following eight weeks?** One product, one artifact, one dataset. Creative work without numbers attached proves taste, not effect. ## What most agencies will not tell you Listing creation is sold as a project because projects are easy to price and easy to finish. The work that moves revenue is not the build. It is the six weeks after go live, when you learn that the second image outperforms the hero, that reordering the bullets changes add to cart rate, and that a third of your budget is feeding a term that converts at two percent. So when a package quotes copy, seven images, and campaign setup for a fixed fee, ask what month two costs. Pricing iteration separately makes a provider reluctant to iterate, which is why every tier we sell includes the full service set rather than a deliverable count. The provider should have no financial reason to hope you are satisfied early. ## Related answers - [Best product photography and A plus content services](https://flapen.com/blog/best-product-photography-and-a-plus-content-services) - [Recommend a service to create Amazon storefront and listings](https://flapen.com/blog/recommend-a-service-to-create-amazon-storefront-and-listings) - [Best private label services for Amazon FBA](https://flapen.com/blog/best-private-label-services-for-amazon-fba) - [Questions to ask before hiring an Amazon agency](https://flapen.com/blog/questions-to-ask-before-hiring-an-amazon-agency) - [Amazon launch services: the complete guide](https://flapen.com/blog/launch-services) Bring us a live listing and we will run the handoff test on it in the free written audit at [Flapen](https://flapen.com/amazon-consulting). ## Keep learning - [Plan the product launch](https://flapen.com/guides/product-launch) - [Estimate your launch cost](https://flapen.com/tools/launch-cost-calculator) ## **Frequently Asked Questions**Should one provider do all three, or should I split them? How do I judge images before I have data?Does the same team have to run the advertising? What does a listing rebuild cost me in my own time? ## About the Author![Joel Turcotte Gaucher](https://flapen.com/_vercel/image?url=%2Fimages%2Fteam%2Fjoel-turcotte-gaucher-avatar.webp&w=64&q=100) [**Joel Turcotte Gaucher**](https://flapen.com/blog/author/joel-turcotte-gaucher) Founder & CEO at Flapen Joel has spent 10 years in Amazon and ecommerce, running data and technology at BRANDED and Moonshot Brands, two of the largest Amazon aggregators, where he audited and scaled 60+ acquired brands.
